We requested (and booked) a family room, on arrival, we were given two double rooms opposite each other. Not a problem for our 1 night stay, but it could have been. "We love this hotel and usually choose to stay here when we visit Newcastle. The rooms are always clean, spacious and have everything needed. This hotel is right in the centre of Newcastle and perfect if travelling by train. The breakfast has always been 10/10 with plenty of choice and is always fresh. We’ve never had any previous problems when staying with staff bending over backwards to ensure a lovely stay, however, last time we visited, we were told the rooms were ready but asked to pay £20 to be in 50 minutes before check in time, which we declined. The most recent time we had to pay £100 holding deposit and we weren’t allowed to check in until we produced ID. These have not been requested previously. We obviously weren’t prepared for this and it made check in quite lengthy so I’d advise to be prepared for this. "
