"Room was very spacious and check-in staff was super nice. We got a welcome drink and excellent recommendations for tours and things to do. Pool access is with reservations but totally worth it and super relaxing. Gorgeous cellar, little shop and art collection. Beautiful breakfast dining room and excellent food selection."

The pool and rooftop were an excellent amenity and the location was central to everything by the water and beautiful gardens. "We were staying in the new block, rooms 901 to 923. Lovely rooms very spacious and comfortable. The pool looked lovely but we didn't use it, it was not quite warm enough at the end of March. But on a really hot day it looked fab. The rooftop jacuzzi was lovely but with the top deck being overlooked by the building work going on next door it was not a very condusive space to spend too much time. Also the whole time we were there the bar on the rooftop was not open, I'm sure it would have been lovely with great views of the city. The breakfasts were of a really good quality, an extensive buffet every day with a degree of variety. I would go here again but would warn about the very extensive building works behind the hotel. Location wise the hotel was good to get back to if you had a car but if walking you need to allow a good 20 minutes to get to Funchal and 30 minutes to get back."

"Lovely atmosphere without any kids. The hotel was fully booked but didn't feel crowded. The deluxe room was worth it - lovely coffee from the coffee machine and a little bar/fridge & robes. The location was a short way uphill out of the town but in a nice area and not a long walk for anyone with reasonable fitness, There were plenty of buses. You could walk downhill to a bus stop and get off further uphill on the way back. There was also a hotel minibus into the town. We had a great stay! "
