ok but sketchy at night
The hotel was comfortable enough, but it was in a bit of a sketchy area. It was a bit run down, too. I'd probably stay in a nicer part of town next time.
I was here on business for a week. The Hotel is situated 4 blocks from the trans america building and at the edge of Chinatown. The other side of the street is little italy. The hotel is quiet and is well taken care of. The beds are a little hard. The only downside is that one block away is the heart of the strip clubs/ gentlemen s clubs. If you are into that then it won't bother you. You can walk different paths to avoid it. Fisherman's Wharf is a 20 min walk thru little italy. Lots of good restaurants around.
Minimal services and amenities. Small outdated room. No parking, no room valet.
Continental breakfast extremely limited/minimal, and not replenished enough.
I've stayed better places for nearly the same cost.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room, though small, was quiet and clean, along with the rest of the hotel. I have already recommended it!

good holiday trip
The location is near Chinatown, and we have a lot to do in the evening. The decoration of room is Chinese style, but room space is a little bit small. The bathroom is nice.
I had a nice experience at the Sw Hotel. The room and bathroom were very clean and the hallways and ambience quite pleasant. It was quite a treat to walk through Chinatown in the morning and evening back and forth from my conference at the Moscone Center.
I chose the Sw as a lower cost option for business travel that put me close to the Financial District. The Sw is sort of "no frills" but was very clean, had a good mattress, and passable wireless network.
I like that it was a reasonable walk to meet my business needs and good restaurants were easily accessible all without having to cab it everywhere.

Un peu cher mais bon emplacement
Nous avons apprécié l'emplacement de l'hôtel. Sans voiture, nous avons pu rejoindre facilement Pier33 à pied.
Les chambres sont propres et plutôt confortables.
Rooms are comfortable, clean and functional and well priced; perfect given that we were only there to sleep, shower and enjoy breakfast. Surrounded by great restaurants which ever direction you walk. A really central location for Fishermans Wharf, China Town, Little Italy and Union Square with great public transport close by.

Not living up to potential
We were assigned a room on the top floor next to the elevator. The elevator movement and resulting noise of personnel entering/leaving made the room annoying enough that sleep was hard to achieve.
The room layout was also a bit strange, causing the gap between the bed and the wall to be close enough that we bumped our knees on the bed. The room and restroom also lacked reasonable storage space; the bathroom in particular had no shelves for toiletries.
The hotel had WiFi, but the signal strength was poor. We were two rooms away from an access point and the strength was so poor that it would be at one bar and get weak enough to disconnect frequently.
The TV was a high definition TV but all the channels were standard definition.
The room was clean for the obvious areas, but it looked as though the area under the bed hadn't been cleaned in months.
The staff was the high point. They were friendly and courteous.
The continental breakfast was adequate. Nothing too remarkable in either the good or bad direction.
Overall, though, I would not recommend this hotel because the hotel room design made the room awkward and the noise made the room poor for its primary purpose of sleeping.

average experience
Room was too small for a deluxe size. Bed was uncomfortable. Water pressure in the shower was weak. Old school tv.

Great location
Very clean, well run hotel. Staff always went the extra mile to help the tourists with there questions n problems. The rooms are very large compared to other hotels. The location was central to a lot of restaurants n tourists destinations. Well done SW hotel.
Love the room decor very clean, but wish our room was not facing the street. Very noisy people out late yelling and police sirens did not sleep well. We told the front desk they didn't seem to be concern, not even a " sorry to hear about that". Maybe they could of not charge us for the parking. Don't know if we were given that room because we paid a low rate. Pretty sure we weren't the only ones that have complain of how loud and noisy it was.

Good location and value
SF hotels are very expensive this summer and this hotel fit into our budget. While it's not luxurious, it was clean, fair updated and pleasant. I would stay here again and recommend to others. Free continental breakfast and in room mini-fridge.

Central location between China Town & Little Italy
Great location, I walked everywhere from the hotel. Room & hotel was clean & tidy. Would stay there again.
Located where China Town, Japan Town and North Beach all converge. Excellent choice if you want to enjoy Beach Blanket Babylon. Surprisingly large rooms for San Francisco - and very clean too.
The room was big and clean in an area in between Chinatown and north beach and close to lots of attractions. Though expensive, it was much cheaper than other hotels not too far away. Free breakfast and wifi.
Our room was very small, and we payed more than we have for any non-luxury hotel yet! Free parking turned into another 30.00 cost. Never again!!!

If you just need a bed & bathroom this is it
Close enough to walk to all tourist destinations.
Deep in China Town - deep.
Heaps of strip joints just down the road if you're into that kind of thing.
Ok value for money.
I needed to find a hotel nearby the financial district where I was attending a conference (but the conference hotel was sold out). The SW Hotel fit the bill -- only a 5 minute walk from the Hilton Fin. District -- and very affordable. I have stayed here before, so knew what to expect, but other first-time visitors might be pleased to know the SW Hotel provides a welcome, peaceful respite in the midst of the hubbub of some of San Francisco's must-see attractions.

A great hotel in Chinatown
I was looking for a good value hotel in Chinatown. This place was great: very clean, modern, and very well situated at Grant & Broadway. It was very quiet !! Breakfast was not much to speak of, but who cares? I would definitely go back here & would definitely recommend the SW Hotel to anyone who wanted a reasonably-priced, safe and clean stay in Chinatown.

Valentine's weekend getaway / Chinese New Year Parade
Great staff, clean rooms, middle of everything in Chinatown, lots of restaurants and Asian markets within walking distance. We were just down the street from the Chinese New Year Parade so it was an easy walk, garage was full due to the Parade but staff gave us info on garages we can use for public parking. Complimentary breakfast was ok, something quick and light before you head out. Overall it was a great experience for Valentine's weekend and Chinese New Year Parade
