Very Good

This hotel was excellent and we returned within 2weeks of our first trip. However, this hotel was closed on 15th September and is being turned into apartments. Dreadful decision.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
We found out that it was closing down at 5pm on Friday 20th September. To be redeveloped. Beautiful Georgian main building, set in 11 acres of well kept grounds. Very sad that will no longer be a hotel.

Disliked: Staff & service
The Hotel was really nice and the room was comfortable and clean. Unfortunately the cooked breakfast was awful – not cooked to order but pre-cooked and kept on a hot plate in the kitchen. This was confirmed by the waiting staff. I complained to the duty manager and got a refund. However the professionalism of the duty manager (or lack of it) when I was trying to explain that I was not happy, left a lot to be desired…
Disappointing from the start. Paid £50 extra to stay in superior suite, there was nothing superior about it, old and very dated and full of dead insects. Breakfast was shocking. All in all I have stayed in better £35 rooms. I paid £124 for this shambles. Staff tried to put on a smile and informed us the hotel was being knocked down end of the month to build flats. I guess that explained the poor state of the place. Worst value for money hotel I have stayed in in 20yrs. Do not be fooled by previous reviews, these people must be delusional.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Hotel was convenient for the town centre. It had plenty of parking and was set in its own grounds. Excellent breakfast cooked to order. Our room was clean but it was in need of some TLC.
Sadly we found out on our departure that the hotel is due to close soon.
Lovely grand building set in beautiful grounds. Very friendly staff, especially Renata in the bar. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was so polite it was refreshing to experience such great service. Breakfast was superb. Room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay again.
Friendly service and excellent food quality. Room a little dated but very clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend it for central base for Ross-on-Wye.
The bedroom was large and nicely furnished with a king size bed. I enjoyed the splendour of this lovely hotel which is in an excellent location and has very nice views.
This was a great hotel, set in its own grounds but within a 5 minute walk of the town. The restaurant was very good , excellent evening meal and breakfasts. Rooms are a little small but the nice old building and a relaxing lounge more than made up. A very relaxing stay.
We found most aspects of our stay pleasant. The bedroom was a little cramped and it is a mystery why only one comfortable chair is provided for a room intended for double occupancy, but in our case there wasn't room for a second. Some of the rooms must have beautiful views of the surroundings but ours did not, merely an inner courtyard. The bathroom was large and all was clean. We had a very good - but not cheap- meal in the evening in the dining-room/breakfast room. Breakfast was good and all staff were courteous.

Lovely hotel but small rooms
The hotel was very clean and pleasant. Although we did upgrade our room, we still felt that it was a small room. Beds were comfortable and facilities were great.

Great
Lovely hotel. Nicely maintained, and very communicative about an event that wa taking place... couldn’t fault them! Would stay again
I have stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions over the years. It successfully combines some of its original old world charm with modern facilities. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the overall venue is peaceful and relaxing, even when large functions are in progress. It provides an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding countryside, including the Brecon Beacons.
I had a very pleasant stay. The room was clean but a bit small and very crowded. The meal at the restaurant was excellent. There was a wedding there so it was rather noisy until 0030 but then it was fine. They did warn me about the wedding before I booked in. I would stay there again
