A great place to stay. Penralley House is a 250 year old building which has been sympathetically brought to modern standards. Our room was large, comfortable and clean. The breakfasts offered a good range of choices and the cooked breakfasts were excellent.
Great location just metres from the village centre with the added bonus of parking at rear.
Excellent host - very informative about local attractions and amenities and even booked a table for us at a local pub for our evening meal.
Two male cyclists in twin room. Fantastic place to stay. Steven was great for local knowledge. Lovely Welsh charm about the house. Clean, great breakfast. Beautiful garden with views to sit in. We sat in garden with a beer after a day on the trails. Highly recommend
Would recommend, lovely host, house and breakfast.
We had a lovely stay at Penralley House, Steve was a great host, and was very welcoming, he was happy to do anything for you so that you had an enjoyable stay, book restaurants, provide the use of his gorgeous garden. Penralley house is an ideal location for Elan Valley, Red Kite Feeding, Aberystwyth, Devils Bridge and all the lovely mountain scenery. The breakfast is outstanding really hot when it get to you, with many choices. Definitely recommend and would stay again if I am that way.
We spotted this stunning property and looked no further. The house did not disappoint, grand and full of character. The only thing with more character is Steve the owner, what a wonderful helpful Gent he is.
He's truly worthy of a visit!
I guess if he has room free you could try staying a couple of nights or so as we did!
The property is grand and beautifully presented with wonderful gardens, stunning views I thoroughly enjoyed my full cooked breakfast my wife said Steve's scrambled eggs were pretty Dam good too!
We'll be back, if he'll have us.
Thank you Steve and Jill (the patient right hand) we had a lovely break.
Where do I start? What a gem of a find. Situated 3.5 miles from the Elan Valley visitor centre with off street safe parking and beautiful gardens. From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the hospitality and facilities of this beautiful b&b. The room was huge and so lovely decorated taking you back in time. We had a king bed and en suite bathroom, the room was spotless. However it was the owners that made it so extra special. They really couldn’t do enough for you, from dining recommendations to walking/running routes and places/things to see. I had warm porridge made
For me every morning after my run and the little fruit and yoghurt desserts that were homemade were amazing, I miss them already. My husband had full English every morning and the toast was proper bread! I really can’t fault a single thing about this lovely hotel. You really will not be disappointed. There is a tea and cake shop about a minute walk away (we didn’t actually visit ) and plenty of pubs serving food, a couple of food shops (co-op) etc all within a minute or two’s walk. Also the fish and chip shop was lovely and worth the visit. The weekend was amazing and made so super special by staying here. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you Penralley x
Steve was the perfect host, friendly and informative, and justly proud of his beautiful and welcoming home. The bedrooms are classically furnished to suit era of the house, the bed was comfy and quality bedding and towels. The gardens are stunning, and peaceful. The breakfast choice was exceptional. Everything was superb.
Steve was a great host, just the right balance of attention and privacy. Lovely room, very comfortable bed, very good breakfast, lovely en-suite. Had a few red kites visiting overhead as well. Could not ask for more.
Outstanding B & B. The proprietor Steve is an absolute star. He booked us a table at The Triangle on Friday night - wonderful food, lovely quaint pub, and the Crown on Saturday night. Good food and good ale.
The B & B itself is a wonderful house with a wealth of character and original charm. The room was excellent & the property was spotless. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. On our return to the property yesteday (we had been out at the dams) there were three red Kites hovering around the back garden.
5/5 for this property and Steve. 👍
My wife and I recently spent a long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary, at the historic Penralley House. The four poster room was excellent , with wonderful views of the extensive garden and the mountains beyond. The owner , Steve, was a superb host and an encyclopedia of information of the surrounding area. Assisted by Gill , the breakfast was excellent. Arriving for breakfast on our final morning, we were greeted by a bottle of bubbly and a lovely card.
We would have no hesitation in booking the Penralley House in the future and thoroughly recommend.

We had a fabulous stay at Penralley House, from our warm welcome on arrival to our farewell. everything was perfect. Our room was very spacious and comfortable with a view over the beautiful garden. The king bed was extra comfy and we had a great sleep every night. Very spacious toilet with good shower and extra toiletries on offer. The breakfast was simply fabulous with a nice selection of fresh fruit, yogurt and home made bircher. the hot food was cooked to order using local produce, delicious. This is a great location to explore the Elan Valley and surrounding area and we would highly recommend a stay at Penralley
This place really does have the wow factor!
Perfectly situated in the heart of Rhayader. This picturesque little town is within cycle or even walking distance of the Elan Valley reservoir and multiple scenic routes.
Penralley house is a restored historic house providing an elegant and homely feel for its guests.
I have to say I was blown away by our room for its beautiful decoration, generous size and cleanliness. The bed was super comfortable and top it all off, I couldn’t take my eyes off the captivating view of the valley and garden from our window.
The combination of uninterrupted peaceful nights sleep, a scrumptious breakfast and the abundant scenic walks in the Elan Valley was the perfect recipe for our holiday escape from a busy world.
A huge round of applause and thank you to our host Steve and his team.
Stunning B&B in Historical House with much character! We stayed in deluxe room with Four-Poster Bed & wonderful views of the large garden and beyond to the Hills around the Elan Valley Reservoirs. The breakfast is also most delicious with many options for all appetites! Recommended!
A stnning great house, very tastefully decorated.
On arrival we were greeted by Steve, given a very friendly welcome, checking was seamless and quick, The room was very roomie, clean and extremely comfortable.
Our aim of stay was to visit the Elan Valley dams, and they didnt disappoint, absolutely stunning.
Steve asked us if we wanted him to book us an evening meal out, he picked up on what we had mentioned visiting lld buildings and castles. Steve recommended a lovely place called The Triangle absolutely beautiful, friendly welcome, great staff, and absolutely stunning food.
Steve is a great host, extremely knowledgeable about the area. We would definitely stay again.
Very friendly and informative host who also recommended and booked us in to places for evening meals. A good central location so able to walk to places in rhayader, would recommend it to friends for places to stay.
House and rooms were very clean and immaculately presented. Wonderful garden with stunning views and the breakfast was the best I’ve had in a longtime from locally sourced produce. The owner Steve could not do enough for us and guided us well to good eatery’s and stunning places of interest. could only give this place a 10 out of 10
