I circled the property which street parking lot. There were two spots right in front of the hotel which had busted glass where car windows were busted and broken into. Shady characters walking all around. I didn’t even stop. I’d rather lose the money than stay there.
Beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms and great staff. Didn't spend much time in the area but there were lots of good food options that we saw or noticed online. Was easy to drive around the area, too.
When we arrived at the hotel, we tried to enter to find out where we could park and the front doors were locked even though it was after check in time. I called the hotel to tell them we were out front and so the front desk lady came out to let us in. We asked her where to park our car. This hotel advertises as having PARKING INCLUDED which was the ONLY reason we booked it. They don't have parking at all and offered us street parking as "included". But then said it's not a good idea to leave the car on the street overnight. That we could pay for the parkade around the corner but they're closed from 6pm to 10am and you have no access to your car during that time. We had an early morning flight to catch and so couldn't park there either. It's in a super ceady part of town, garbage all around on the streets, cardboard in some of the windows of the hotel building. We decided that we were not staying there and booked another hotel in the city.
Perfect little hotel that feels like a hostel for adults. There is a little shares kitchen area and the rooms are perfectly situated for everything you need including coffee. For the price, this is the perfect quick stop.
I had a really nice night here. The front desk lady was sweet and helpful. She upgraded my room to a beautiful King suite when she knew my fiance and I booked one night for our anniversary. The room was clean and lovely. The city view at night was fabulous. The mattress is comfortable. Trending Inn definitely will be my first choice in Oakland.
The best hotel I've ever been. Great experience staying as a business traveler. Really nice front desk service. Nice terrace to hang out with friends or enjoy the beautiful sunshine. Unique corridor with modern photography works. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. A little fridge inside the room brings great convenience to me. Definitely gonna come back again!
Nice little boutique hotel downtown. Great location. Service was great. The rooms are fairly new, nice and clean inside. There is a cool open air terrace upstairs that is really nice for hanging out if you don’t want to be stuffed in the room. Really enjoyed staying here, will come back
The walls are very thin and I could hear everything, including when my neighbors flushed toilet or showered or opened drawers. I don’t smoke. They gave me a smoker room that reeked of cigarettes. The staff is very very nice but the desk isn’t staffed 24/7 and in fact, they don’t really seem to be there 75% of the time.

Just missed the mark
This remodeled hotel just missed the mark. Couple things to be aware of. This is in an old historic building and consequently, there is no elevator. If you are on the second floor, there are 29 stairs that you need to climb to get up to floor 2. There are limited number of electrical outlets available and no USB charging ports. There is no ice machine in the building. There is a fridge in the room, but no freezer component, and nothing really got cold in the fridge. The bathroom vanity is in the living area and the toilet and shower are in the bathroom. The water pressure in the shower was crazy low and it took literally 2 minutes before hot water to start coming out. I think the owners were trying to make this a nice place, but they just missed the mark.
What was good: the room and the property in general was very clean and, since it looked to be recently renovated, quite beautiful on the inside. Also, the room we had off the courtyard was absolutely silent. We heard nothing at all. The woman who met us upon arrival, Cher, was very friendly and helpful.
The other of the coin includes the fact that the hotel is located is a very sketchy part of town. Our rental was broken into parked on the street. The streets in the area are badly littered and frankly disgusting. The area is inhabited by a population that make it difficult to feel safe walking around in the evening looking for something to eat.
The hotel has a ridiculous policy of having the front desk open for only a few hours a day. You can check-in only between the hours of 3 and 5. Otherwise you’ll need to make special arrangements to get the key to your room. Once there we found that the room that I had specifically reserved was not available and we had to settle for another less comfortable room. Also, if you’re used to housekeeping during a stay lasting more than a single day you’ll be disappointed.
Check-out was complicated by the fact that the key code I had been given to operate the door, because no one was at the desk at the time, ceased to work after a single use. We had to call the hotline, imagine a hotel with a hotline, to get Cher to show up allow us to get the remainder of our stuff out of the room.
I will not be returning.
Quick and Easy check in. Friendly staff. Desk has limited hours and you must check in before 500pm or contact them ahead. No parking was a bit of an issue. Parking in Oakland is Expensive, so consider this. Room was nice and bed was very comfortable. It was a bit cold, since the only heater is pretty far from the bed and there are high ceilings. Overall super good! There was really really really low water pressure in the shower. Liked the place and location, but for the price I would expect parking and a better shower.
This hotel is a hidden gem in Oakland. It is right downtown close to Chinatown with lots of options on places to eat and a convenient store across the street. The rooms are extremely clean and have very comfortable beds. The courtyard is beautiful and it provides for a very authentic Oakland experience with high rise buildings surrounding it. You also have access to Netflix, and Prime Amazon. Sher the front desk attended was amazing. She went above and beyond to make our experience special. This hotel will be our first choice in the future when visiting the SF Bay Area.
The front desk closes early. Perhaps 6 PM. I don't know because I never saw anyone there.
The wifi was effectively broken.
There's not exactly a lobby.
There's no exercise room.
That said what's there is pretty nice and freshly remodeled. It's a good value and I'd stay there again, I'd just have lower expectations.

The room was clean and adequate for bargain tourist travel in an expensive city, but not suitable for business travel. My room faced the street, and it should have had better noise-dampening windows. The room had a funny smell. The TV only had apps, not actual regular television, which was annoying. The towels were worn. The cups in the room were clearly rinsed, not washed.
I like that I was running very late for my check in due to flat tire. They left me a door code and my keys to check myself in. Did not have to lose my reservation and after a very long trip just wanted to go to bed hassle free. Would stay here again.

The Trending Inn is a great option if nearby standard hotels aren't available or out of your budget. The rooms are updated and clean, although I had a wad of hair from the last guest in my shower for half my stay, after asking a few times to have the shower re-cleaned. Our cable also didn't work, which they helped to resolve pretty quickly. Overall, the Trending Inn could use a lobby makeover and some amenities. I'm also wondering why the rooms are called suites, when there's just the usual bed and desk in the room. My coworker staying down the hall had a suite with pullout couch, carpet and a fireplace which was more in line for a room called a "suite". My King suite, in comparison, simply had a bed, desk and no additional features. No enclosed closet, sitting area, etc.
The most frustrating part of our stay was the rainfall shower with little to no water pressure. Imagine showering under a trickle of lukewarm water... I couldn't wait to get home for a real shower! The courtyard, while super cute, is not very usable unless you want to read or something low key. I overall would have preferred a standard hotel with amenities, breakfast, common areas, and 24/7 staff. Again, the Trending Inn is clean and functional, and the staff is pleasant. Just make sure you read the details and adjust your expectations. I would say it's not great for a leisure trip, vacation or long stay. Lesson learned!

This hotel would have been fine except for the ridiculous glass door on the bathroom. Shower door was opaque; door between bathroom and bedroom area was not. I do not know if it is like this in every room, but for this reason alone I would not stay here again. In addition, I considered the neighborhood "sketchy."
Convenient location to BART. Staff members are extremely helpful and go out of their way to solve problems. With no instructions to explain the heat/air controls, keeping the room temperature comfortable was difficult.
