Wonderful place to stay in Nara, a beautiful traditional Japanese house, quiet, nice neighborhood, about 10-15 minutes walk to shopping and restaurant area, but we don’t mind the walk through the peaceful and beautiful alleys.
Vanha tunnelmallinen talo kävelymatkan päässä juna asemalta, jota pyörittää mitä ystävällisin vanha pariskunta. Majoitus yksityishuoneissa on perinteisillä futoneilla, tunnelmallisissa huoneissa. Talo on upea!
You need to be aware of other people. That´s it, just like you would do at home :)
They helped us in all they could and were truly interested in sharing with us.
If you decide to go, share with them your plans and things you would like to do, they know a lot of people and can point you in the right direction.
Would definitely go again!!!
Review of Guesthouse Naramachi
The introduction and tour by the proprietor as well as the officious explanation of the myriad of strict rules might leave you feeling you have just landed on a prison farm. He may ask for your passport four times if you do not hand it over within ten seconds. The piano music, which plays until 11PM, (doors locked at 10) might be flattered to be described as sappy and is on a perpetual repeat cycle. If you want an early night it isn’t possible. A good pair of ear plugs is strongly recommended - the sound barriers between the rooms are less than paper thin.
All paths from bathroom to bedroom pass through the only living area which is charming. There are only two bathrooms and two showers, insufficient for the number of guests. The stairs to the sleeping rooms are steeper and longer than most temples so bring climbing slippers bigger than size 8 men’s – the proprietor will insist you wear them. If you are anywhere close to six feet tall you may want a hard hat – there are low ceilings in some areas.
After you have stripped your bed (rule 62) in the morning, the wife (or helper) of the proprietor will ask you to account for your bedding and towels as though you might slip them into your luggage. Towels will cost you extra.
Otherwise a great place to stay.
very well organized, clean, comfort, best guesthouse I have been. Alomost 100 years buiding is renovated and become the good hostel equped with modern conveniency by the owner.
I made a mistake with my booking but the owner showed generous with smile.

Fine, but Out of the Way
I needed a bus to get there from the train station.
