I checked in late and they left a packet with my key out for me. I stayed in a studio with kitchenette and had everything I needed. The lakeside sauna was a nice bonus.

Room was clean and comfortable. Sauna was fun. More lights on walkway would be great, and a safety bar in the shower. Bed, too was awesome. And, I loved the table and chairs in the room.

Great location with beautiful views of the lake. We stayed in one of their newly renovated rooms and found it to be cozy, quaint and comfortable- which was perfect in a spring blizzard! The lakeside sauna was perfect for a relaxing evening.

This is an old resort but typical for the area. The room was comfortable but electric outlets were not accessible, shade didn’t come down all the way (would be nice to have top down shade for lake view without being on display), paper thin walls (but people were reasonably quiet). Nice to have fridge and microwave. Staff were friendly.

Perfect spot just outside of Grand Marais

The location was excellent - just outside of Grand Marais and close to lots of hiking trails. We loved the sauna and the peaceful lakefront property. A great find!

The property sits on the shore of Lake Superior. There are chairs and firepits, a sauna, and beautifully designed and decorated rooms. The owners are very responsive and friendly, and we will stay there again!

New Year Getaway

It is a perfect escape and pivot point between Grand Marais and Lutsen skiing. Only used the sauna once, but it was a great amenity. Kitchen fully fitted out for making meals. Decor was just right.

Perfect stay by the lake

The room was clean and the lake view was nice. We enjoyed the sauna a lot. Sitting around a campfire and listening to the water was very relaxing. Very close to Grand Maris. Highly recommend it if you visit Grand Marais!

This is an awesome place the stay and well worth the price. It is was quiet. The waves crashing against the rocks soothing. The amenities wonderful. This has become our new place to get away from it all. We definitely recommend this place to any and everyone. You CANNOT go wrong with this place. We are already planning our next stay.

The Thompsonite Beach Inn offers a special experience along the North Shore. From the beach front that gives visitors the opportunity to have the have the spray of Lake Superior lap at their feet, to the sauna for relaxation, to the beach front fire pit, s’mores, and yard games, this inn is a treasure. The owners thought of every visitor’s needs. This is a peaceful, secluded escape.

Pulling off the highway we were greeted by a slice of apparent Americana exterior which was to say somewhat daunting. Entering the office I was immediately welcomed by two very friendly helpful staff whose smiles made me feel at home right away. Then the surprise came. Upon opening the door we were greeted with an absolutely adorable room, so much better than the dingy dark space that I was anticipating. A fresh room with modern amenities and cleanliness that rivals any Ritz or JW Marriott. Additionally I was parked in an assigned space just mere feet from our door. Looking for serenity? The only sounds were the gentle waves of Lake Superior and a passing thunderstorm that night. Safety concerns should not be a concern with electronic locks and deadbolts Final opinion...Look no further for lodging when in Grand Marais!
