I was up one night in Edinburgh for business.
Positives
Staff very helpful.
Evening meal was excellent, as was breakfast.
The room had a full sized bath with copious hot water.
A TV that I could plug headphones into.
Enough workspace on the desk.
A mug not a cup with quality tea and coffee (no biscuits).
Negatives.
The hotel is closing down in 2016.
The room needed a little maintenance, i.e. the window would not fully shut, the bathroom light bulb was out, the wardrobe doors did not shut.
I would have gone back next year if it was going to remain open.

Had to wait a while then go looking for a staff member to order at the bar and then had to go looking again to pay for the meal...

Basic but good. ..
Excellent location for high street choice of eateries. Hotel is now room only - no evening meal or breakfast. . I had room 6 and with the Indian restaurant below and outside the window was noisy, I travel with rear plus so no problem. All in all - you get what you pay for and this was good for what I wanted, would I use again - yes. .. Godots restaurant 2 mins walk up the hill is fantastic. David

Nice hotel, few minor problems
Stayed here for 2 nights and found it very nice at first glance. However, after being there for a few hours I found a few odd bits had not been cleaned from the previous occupants including a dental floss stick. Also, at first glance it seemed like a good sized room but when it came to its functionality (ie getting ready) it was noticeably cramped. Apart from this all was good
Two things I disliked of this hotel:
1.There was no lift available to go up to my room.
2.The "double bed" was in fact two single beds put togheter so it was terribly uncomfortale to sleep in the middle of it therefore I had to sleep in the edge as if in one single bed.

My son was in Edinburgh for a conference and the Minto was an easy walk.

I booked and paid for a double room and upon arrival me and my friend got surprised to see a huge room with a queen-sized bed and two single beds. The staffs are nice and accommodating. The hotel room was very clean upon arrival and the neighborhood seemed safe.
The price was quite reasonable for convent 10min walk to university and 15min walk to royal mile. Especially appreciated the free parking and free bagga storage while we travelled around Scotland. Hotel staff were very helpful.
the staff was the best I had ever experienced. They were welcoming and so incredibly friendly and helpful with what we needed and how to get around the city. The rooms were cute but on the small side. It was a great location to bus stops and not far from the city centre. I would highly recommend.
Stayed one night ,staff were great room was good two single beds pushed together to make a double and they squeaked every time you moved

Good hotel to use as a base.
Overall a nice hotel to use as a base for exploring Edinburgh during the Fringe and the Tattoo. A good 20 minute walk to the Royal Mile, which we enjoyed as the weather was favourable. However we did also use taxis which cost between £7-£10, there was also plenty of buses.
The rooms are small but adequate. We ate at the hotel once and was very disappointed by the service - with one member of our party not receiving their meal. We booked to eat at 5.45pm and explained to the waitress at the time of booking we were on a tight schedule as we going to the Tattoo that evening. However, staff did apologise and we received a bottle of wine.

The Minto was one of our fav places on our recent UK trip. We had booked several months ago and the service was excellent then also. In particular, Melanie was fantastic - extremely helpful, extremely obliging and nothing was too much trouble. Drinks in the bar were reasonable and brekky also available onsite. Our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the garden. Very quiet and comfortable. Bathroom very clean and larger than most. Water pressure good. Our son and his partner also stayed with us and again this was no trouble. Parking onsite. Bus outside the door but we chose to walk 15 mins or so into town. Also appreciated the prompt call from Melanie advising I had left behind my fitbit. Arrangements made for collection by a cousin and all ended up being sorted. Will def stay there again. Possibly the best we experienced in the UK.

They upgraded us to Honeymoon Suite as it was vacant. Lovely spacious room with sofa and nice bathroom-we even had access to garden which appeared to be for our sole use. Great breakfasts for £7.50-couldnt have made us more welcome.
