Great stay at the Golden Hotel, it has perfect location and friendly staff. Room I stayed was quiet and clean, bed was comfortable and with AC you can sleep well. Warmly recommend to short and longer stay!
This hotel is well established and centrally located in Downtown Cairo.Although it des not present well from the street ,it is well appointed once you reach front desk of 3rd floor via classic lift..I would strongly recommend it in this price range....
I have been traveling to Egypt every year since 2007 and for the past 9 years I have stayed at the Golden Hotel whenever I’m in Cairo. The rooms and bedding are comfortable and spotless. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, an omlette, yogurt and tea or coffee. Best of all, the owner and staff are welcoming and very accommodating.
The downtown location can’t be beat making it an easy walk to the Corniche, the Egyptian Museum, the American University in Cairo bookstore, Abdeen Palace and lots of restaurants and shops. A slightly longer walk of 20-30 minutes will get you to the Islamic Art Museum, Bab Zuweila, and the Street of the Tentmakers. It’s only a bit more than a 5 minute walk to the Sadat metro station at Tahrir Square to get you to most other destinations.
Modest prices make The Golden Hotel a great value - don’t hesitate to book a room.
Property was excellent. Mostafa, Bassem and Marone, they are excellent people. Navil is owner all time help us. I recommended. If some body going to Cairo, Golden Hotel is best option.
I was booked this hotel room for 3 days staying but able to stay 1 day. The hotel rooms were on the 5/6 floor. The elevator was broken, had to climb the stairs with my two heavy luggage’s.
The room was dirty bathroom, floor.
Also one thing that I have to mention is, the room had strong odor that is not tolerable smells.
I know I paid less for the hotel, but this hotel was not in condition to staying.
Customer service was good. I was not worried about the breakfast. The hotel in on a good convenience place.
Avoid, Avoid, Avoid! I arrived at the hotel only to find they had no rooms left, despite that i had already booked and paid online. After a long while trying to explain this to a receptionist who spoke zero English, he put me onto his boss on the phone who spoke a little english. This character advised me to cancel my booking online so I would get my money back, and said he would arrange that I could stay at a nearby hotel called Agor.
I couldn't not find the Agor hotel and was left to wander the streets at 1 am looking for another room. There were a number of other hotels in the area, but all were full. This was very stressful, particularly as I was exhausted from my flight and panicking that I might have to sleep on the streets!
I eventually did find a room at another hotel at 2am. The next day, I learnt that the Agor had closed down some time ago. The person I spoke to on the phone at the Golden Hotel must have known this and lied simply to get rid of me. Also, I wasn't able to cancel my booking there as it was too late, and I didn't get my money back.
This was a really upsetting experience. Its disgusting that this establishment treats people in such a way. It is also worth noting that, though I didn't see a room inside the Golden, the building, the lobby and furnishings were very shabby and dirty, the other hotels I saw were much nicer.
I booked this property based on ratings and reviews but as I found out the reviews had little in common with the reality. The hotel supposedly offers smoke free rooms and sound proofing but neither of these statements is accurate. I smelled smoke in my room at all hours including at night. I don’t know how it gets to the room but I’m asthmatic and that exposure to smoke resulted in a number of asthma-driven bouts of cough. It was very noisy despite my room being away from the street. No soundproofing whatsoever! There was a window installed air conditioner unit. Per the owner it was only to be turned on when the guest is in the room. At night it got so hot that it was unbearable and I couldn’t sleep. I tried to set a lower temperature but it didn’t work. I slept maybe 3 hrs at most and so when in the morning the owner asked how I was, I mentioned the above problems. Cigarette in his hand, exhaling the smoke he said he had no idea where the smoke could have been coming from.
Also, the room was not very clean. One light switch was so gross I couldn’t bring myself to touch it. There were stains of unknown origin, in different colors, on the wall. The sheets were clean. The floor and the bathroom seemed to have been cleaned. As far as safety goes: it is located in a pretty safe part of town. But the building is dilapidated. One window in the stairwell has sharp-edge broken glass. In the bathroom a big and heavy water heater installed right above the toilet. I don’t recommend it
