Our stay at Torfhus Retreat was great. The location is perfect for exploring the Golden Circle – we could easily visit major sites without exhausting drives. The hospitality was warm and genuine, making us feel completely at home. One of our favorite surprises was the charming Icelandic horses at the fence from the neighboring farm – we got some wonderful photos of these beautiful creatures. The food was wonderful throughout our stay. Breakfast provided everything we needed to start our days of adventure, and the four-course dinners each evening were truly memorable. We can't recommend Torfhus Retreat highly enough for anyone planning to explore Iceland's Golden Circle.

Lovely location. Wonderful main area and kitchen. Food was great! Hotel rooms (turf houses) are teeny - 1 bedroom house had nowhere to put luggage nor any cabinets to unpack. Bathroom had no place for toiletries. Minimal personal items such as no conditioner, no robes, no slippers. The advertised private thermal pools are actually shared with two other units. Since so little needed to be done to upgrade comfort, this could have been a 5-star experience, but didn’t quite feel that way.

This property is absolutely amazing. We stayed in a 2-bedroom cottage, which included a full kitchen and a private geothermal hot tub. Staff was superb. Breakfast, which is included, was excellent. Dinner, at an additional cost, was fantastic and some of the best meals we have ever had on vacation. I can not say enough good things about this property. Be advised that the nearest grocery store is around 20 minutes and closest town is 30-40 min. We found this property to be the perfect place to base our southern coast exploration. If you are looking for a place in this region, I highly recommend Torfhus Retreat. We will definitely be back to this special property.

Torfus Retreat is an unique luxury experience and a must stay during a trip to Iceland. The owners and entire staff are passionate about making your stay the absolute best. From the dining hall to the basalt soaking pools, the attention to detail throughout the property is fantastic. Jóhannes, the Retreat Manager, even helped us secure our Covid tests prior to leaving the country. Don't miss out on the dinner. We had the tasting menu - full of surprises, even for a vegetarian. So delicious. If you are looking for a centrally located accommodation in the Golden Circle, look no further. You are home!
