The hotel is amazing.
the design mix of Dorothy Draper and a bit new, is spectacular. I appreciate that the newly designed Greenbrier, including The Casino has kept with Dorthy Draper. Carlton Varney has maintained her vision over the years with the bright colors and antiques which is the only way I can picture it. "Old South."
From the moment we were greeted by the friendly courteous staff our stay at this grand hotel was sheer pleasure. the facade oh hotel reminded me of the White House which must have made the more twenty US presidents whom have stayed their feel very at home here Dorothy Draper an avant-garde decorator is responsible for over the top Laura Ashley before Laura Ashley decoration. Where as Ashley chose small prints. Miss Draper went large but somehow had the genius to tie it all together and bring the garden inside the Greenbrier in a delightfully eccentric manner. Don't miss staying at this gem.
A great hotel, however, overpriced, especially as a lot of restaurants are closed (we traveled in mid-March), not much going on in terms of activities, everything closes very early (every other day at 6 pm the place becomes a desert). The pool closes at 7 pm - very inconvenient!
Web site should provide information about proper dress code - we came unprepared: most restaurants don't allow jeans in the evening. It's nice, but clients should be alerted at booking time.
Shower caps are ridiculously small (economy?), grown-up person can't put it on; glad I had mine packed.
Otherwise, very nice and beautiful place if the price was a little more reasonable, at least off-season.
West Virginia is Americas best kept secret!! And the Greenbrier is truly the diamond gem in this beautiful state!! Here is a resort that has a window into a phenomenal history and yet boasts fabulous ammenities of today. Everything from archetectural elegance, pampering in a world class SPA, an evening of fun in the casino for adults and ice skating for the family are only a few of the memories that our family will take with us for years to come!! Put this at the TOP of your travel list!! plans!!
We had a turely wonderful time during our three night stay at The Greenbrier Hotel and Resort. The is lots to do, great eating places, and the staff was top flight.
My husband and I were at the GREENBRIER over the long Christmas weekend. There are not enough ways to tell you how much we loved it. The hotel itself is magnificent, ALL 1800 EMPLOYEES were a delight. They could not have been more hospitable, helpful, friendly or professional. There was plenty for all ages to do. There were special dinners and programs such as the GINGERBREAD BALL for the little ones, sleigh rides for adults, movies, the spa, an ice skating rink, billiards, bowling, a huge indoor pool, and the list goes on forever. The hotel itself was decorated as a winter wonderland with tons of beautifully decorated shops. Afternoon tea with musical concert was a delight that we looked forward to. On a scale of 1-10, thiis beauty is a 15. We can't wait to go back!
After many trips to the hotel over the last twenty years It was nice to see that The Greenbrier has not lost any of it's character, splendour and style with the transition to new ownership. All staff could not have been more attentive. It was always apparent that they would do anything to please. You were constantly acknowledged by name throughout the hotel and facilities and every effort was made to accomodate all requests. A great four day escape.
A gracious old south hotel. The visit was everything we could have wished. Some of the decor was showing it's age, but beautiful over all. The holiday decorations were going up and just made it more special. It's a resort and the prices are in keeping for resort food service.
The Greenbrier is probabley the greatest resort in the nation and continues to get better. It is hard to imagine how you could have a more pleasant stay anywhere else. There is nothing that they do not think of and with 1800 employees they take care of everything for you. It gives the feel of being a guest at an old world palace and being waited on hand and foot.
We had a wonderful experience from check-in to check-out. The hotel was wonderful, the accomadations and food were excellent and the staff was "over the top". Everyone should take the bunker tour, what a great piece of American history. Last, but not least, the casino was a treat!
What a gem! One of the most beautiful properties I have ever stayed at with the most friendliest staff. Everyone we encountered was so pleasant and friendly. Room was beautiful as well as the surroundings.
I have been to many fine hotels in my life, but have never had a better experience than I had at the Greenbrier. The service is first rate. The amenities are too. I would recommend this to anyone.
Very friendly staff. Arived early but room was ready! Pleasently surprized as we were upgraded to a junior suite.
Found the resort with many new attractions including new restaurants and a smoke free casino with great interetainment.
Was just a great weekend
Very friendly and polite staff, excellent lunch at Draper's and even better dinner at Prime 44 West. Very much enjoyed walking the grounds. We are very much looking forward to our next visit.
We cannot adequately express how superlative the entire staff and amenities were. I became ill during our tour of the bunker and everyone including our guide, and the young woman who escorted me to to the lobby, the young man at the desk who gave me a new key, the waiter, later that night, who allowed me to order an item that was not on the menu.. I could go on endlessly. Everyone could NOT have been nicer. My husband got in a round of golf, I got to use the spa and the pool, and we also got to take several lovely walks. The Greenbrier is an American treasure, made only more wonderful by the wonderful and gracious people who work there.
We will definitely return.

Wonderful
The Greenbrier is a wonderful place to stay. Everyone is pleasant and the accomodations were beautiful. A little expensive but well worth it.
Impressive! We were treated like royalty. The hotel and grounds are amazing. We had dinner in the main dining room, and although on the expensive side, it was excellent. Isn't it nice when the wait staff call you by name, not "guys." We also did the tour of the hotel and the bunker tour. Neither should be missed! We'd love to return, but there is so much more to see and so little time.
