Jon was an excellent, friendly, and helpful host who even offered to buy groceries for us when he went to Hilo. The inn was conveniently located next to the Volcano National Forest, which we visited often.

Out side was not maintained. No view/
Breakfast as OK and provided. Clean interior.
VFI is very close to Volcano National Park and it was the main reason why we chose to stay here. The house is nestled in the rainforest with a short drive from the main road so its very quiet. Our room is spacious with many windows facing the rainforest and a big patio. Our room is comfortable and pleasant. We stayed 4 nights and enjoyed it very much. The host, Jon, is also a very nice guy and approachable. Breakfast is a grab and go and has plenty of fresh fruits which is a bonus!
Me and my daughter had a very good experience at the Volcano Forest Inn. It is literally at 5 minute drive of the entrance of the Volcano National Park. Which allow us to visit the volcano easily.
The rooms was pretty big, confortable and clean. The communication with the owner and our arrival was easy.
We were warned by email that the weather could be chilly because of the rain forest. We were ok, but everyone should be aware that it was about 12 to 15 Celsius early mourning.
Also there is a cleaning fee of 80$ that is not mentioned in Expedia web site.
Overall, for the price, I would highly recommend this hotel.
Room is nice, big and clean, but this place doesn’t feel welcoming. Arrivals at door but code not working even the host is right there in living room won’t open door for us. Had to pay the fee first then a new code sent to me. Before I use the new code the host opened the door. First thing heard from him was kids not welcome and they like to be quiet even we don’t have any kids. We stayed 3 nights, room never cleaned, had to ask for fresh towels. Location is good, very close to volcano national park. Entrance is bit hard to see if coming dark.
The "driveway" is a hard to find the first time, and it's a bit rough (take it slow) but the Inn is fine. Our room was very large, although it could use a couch to fill up the space and provide a comfy place to relax. The TV is very small, but we never wanted to watch anything anyway. The breakfast items provided are rather spartan but I realized it's not a fancy bed and breakfast, rather an airbnb sort of accommodation with a shared kitchen. The coffee was fine although I would have appreciated real creamer and not the powdered stuff (yes, I could and did buy milk at the local store to put in the shared fridge). Altogether the VFI is not luxurious but does its job.
This was a very nice and comfortable place to stay.

Needs a nightstand with lamp on both sides of bed. Room nice and large but only two chairs and small table. The shower head is mounted so close to the wall, with no adjustments, that my butt was being poked by the faucet each time I showered. Room was very cold and just one small heater which did nothing to heat the room. Slept with our jackets and clothes on. Mattress was lumpy and not comfortable. No countertops in bathroom. Only one luggage rack. Really needs two. Jon, the owner, was very nice. But I never got a chance to tell him about the room problems.

Plenty of space in a quiet location in Volcano. Along with a full shared kitchen, there is a community refrigerator/freezer, which I wasn't sure about based on the online description. Jon, the property manager was always available, but stayed out of the way. Check in/out was easy and the price was reasonable. There is a separate cleaning fee of $80 which you'll need to figure in to your budget.
It was a beautiful place with a wonderful walk in closet. The breakfast offerings were delicious, especially the cookies by Butter and Champagne Bakery. I would stay again there in a heart beat.
Great spot to stay when visiting Hawai'i and Volcanoes National Park! Super helpful check-in instructions and the breakfast in the morning is just what's needed for long days hiking!
It was a nice property overall! The bed wasn’t the most comfortable, but you can’t beat the proximity to the park! Very nice owner will work with you for what you need!
We enjoyed our stay at Volcano Forest Inn. It was comfortable and exceptionally close to the entrance to the National Park. Communication prior to check in was excellent. Would definitely stay here again.
The room is spacious, clean, and with private bathroom, stylish room design, very comfortable mattress. Vendors come home to make healthy fresh snacks, the owner get fresh fruits in the morning, has countertop water dispenser, friendly environment, guests have opportunities to set together to exchange travel experience during meal times
Secluded and surrounded by the forest lends a quite, restful feel to the inn. Conveniently located just a few miles from volcanoes national park and the gracious proprietor made for a great visit!
We had a wonderful stay at the Volcano Forest Inn. The large room, access to the full kitchen/common area, the quiet location surrounded by the rainforest, and the private deck allowed us to enjoy a relaxing visit. The inn has a great location just outside the national park. We were able to stop at several places before they became busy. There was a good amount of information on the area and a tv with current info on the volcano. The rooms are well maintained and comfortable. Overall, it was a great visit that I strongly recommend.
John, the owner was an awesome host. The property is just minutes away from Volcanos National Park which was very important for us. The area where this place is is very quiet and secluded, perfect for us. I highly recommend this place.
