The Cabin - Your Eco Place In the Mountains
Nestled in the foothills of the World Heritage Barrington Tops National Park, within a short distance of stunning Chichester Dam and only 25mins to Dungog, this rustic cabin, set within the wilderness area is nourishment for the soul.
This corner cabin is high-set to take advantage of breathtaking views. Enjoy the wrap around verandah from which you can soak in the natural surrounding environment in comfort.
Step out of the cabin for, a game of tennis on the grounds or onto walking trails that take you across Williams River and through the heart of the wilderness.
Immerse yourself in the pristine waters of the Williams River. A short walk through the forest of soaring gums, old growth cedars and beeches takes you to the aptly named Crystal pool. This naturally formed deep pool offers a refreshing restorative dip in one of the clearest rivers on mainland Australia. There are also a number of stunning swimming holes along the Blue Gum walking trail, a gentle walk through the majestic forest.
The Cabin is perfect for families with lots to keep children occupied and delighted. Couples looking for a romantic retreat are also well catered for.
The Cabin shares the grounds with other cabins so you may see and hear other guests during your stay.
The cabin features large windows, kitchen area with stove-top, microwave with open-plan dining/living area leading out to a balcony. Take in the views as you sit out on the historic day bed, sourced from one of the local homesteads and crafted from the superb hardwood timbers the district is celebrated for. You'll be joined most mornings by a variety of wildlife; parrots, Bush turkeys, and the resident wallaby and her joey. Lyrebirds make their nests in the grounds and are often spotted (and heard) from the cabin.
Indulge yourself with a bath at the end of the day. The water is sourced from the nearby river and so offers a pure, relaxing, chemical free soak.
The main queen bedroom is downstairs with a queen and 2 singles upstairs in the loft.
The cabin offers a largely tech-free retreat - if your idea of a true escape is an internet and mobile phone free environment this is the spot for you! Mobile phone coverage is lost once you enter the park. Although there is a mobile hot spot at the tennis court that usually extends to The Cabin so you can stay in touch with the outside world.
For entertainment there are DVDs with a TV/monitor, board games and books. There are also tennis racquets and balls provided for use on the full size court on the grounds.
The local townships of Dungog, Paterson, Gresford and Vacy provide rewarding day trips. Source local produce and wares at the growers markets or enjoy local produce at one of the excellent hotel restaurants or cafes. The historic James theatre in Dungog offers a thoughtfully curated cinema and musical programme. We recommend allowing time for such visits on your arrival or departure as experience tells us that it's hard to leave the tranquil wilderness once you've arrived and settled in.
This, from Philip, is an example of the feedback from guests who've enjoyed the cabin:
This is a compact but comfy and well equipped cabin in an idyllic rainforest location away from phone, internet and busy-ness. Just what we wanted for our mini holiday. Wish we could have had longer than 3 days. Beautiful rainforest walks, the sounds of a myriad of native birds, and loads and loads of peace and respite. We made lots of use of the tennis court and took the bikes out a few times too. Already planning when we can get back there

We all enjoyed the cosy atmosphere away in a beautiful forest setting. The bird life & fresh air was lovely & relaxing. We enjoyed the stunning bush walks available near by.We can recommend this cabin for a real country get away.
Beautiful cabins with everything one needs, lots of great personal touches and a lovely atmosphere. Nestled in gorgeous bushland with lots of birds and wildlife. We had a wonderful time.
Very relaxing stay in a beautiful spot. The swimming hole was easily accessible and a great spot for a swim. The cabin was comfortable and the linen was lovely. Thankyou Cate for your very clear directions to the property and hints and tips. Highly recommended spot to stay.
Best cabin in a hidden location. We loved the pottery, linen, comfy beds, large windows and wildlife! Great communication with owners. Desperate to be back !
Perfect location for hikes to the river or drives further through the Barringtons.
Cabin is cozy with all creature comforts you would expect. Morning coffees on the verandah with the King Parrots and Bbq dinners with the possums.
Communication was amazing from start to finish.
Can not wait to go again!
My 10-year old son and I loved staying at the cabin. We wished we could have stayed for much longer than 2 nights and explore more of the bushland.A tranquil place in the middle of pristine nature with beautiful wildlife. We will remember the breakfasts at the terrace in the presence of lorikeets and crimson reds. Nice relaxing atmosphere with lovely neighbors.
Amazing property located within the rainforest, surrounded by nature with no service. Beautiful walks through the rainforest leading to rivers and waterfalls. Hosts were super informative and recommended some walks for us to do during our stay. Definitely recommend if you are wanting to stay in the Barrington area.
We stayed for 4 nights it was warm for early October 2023 but we stayed cool enough in the house
We loved the visits from the local wildlife
Pretty much had the place to ourselves which was great to unplug and unwind
The house had everything we needed
We loved it and have told all of our friends
Peaceful, secluded get away in a delightful little chalet located at the end of the road (no easy pop to local shop for milk!) surrounded by majestic old forest.
Pellet fire, generously equipped kitchen, clean, nice bathroom, comfortable beds with an abundance of lush blankets and bedding, a coffee making machine and a little verandah where we were visited by an abundance of birds (bring some seed and make friends!), Treetops is perfect to access the beautiful and easy local bush walks (+/- take a dip into the crystal clear river pools … glorious, albeit icy in winter!!) and to laze around enjoying some solitude.
Lovely place for a quiet retreat amongst nature.
Thanks Cate
Adorable and cozy cabin surrounded by trees and wildlife. Everything you need is in the cabin which makes traveling lighter. (Coffee machine - beans type with milk frother, air fryer oven, toaster, stove top, BBQ, kettle, full sized fridge, microwave) beautiful bathroom and large verandah with ample seating. The kids had a ball playing tennis. We can't wait to come back!
The entire stay was great. Myself, my 23 yr old son and 13 yr old daughter laughed and created some incredible memories. The wildlife was spectacular, the scenery magnificent. The cabin came with all the needed equipment and an assortment of dvds.
We loved our stay in the lovely rustic cottage, so peaceful, the wildlife, hiking trails and swimming holes were fabulous. Cate was so accomodating when we had to change dates and very easy to deal with, highly recommend staying there and we will be back.
Absolutely adored our trip to the eco cottage, me and my friends could have stayed forever. Communication was excellent, the house and facilities were perfect. Definitely coming back :)
We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin. Everything we could possibly want was provided and being in the quiet of the bush was exactly what we’d hoped for. There were so many personal touches in the cabin that showed the love and attention to detail provided by the owners. Thank you so much for a stay in a very special place that we would thoroughly recommend to our friends and family looking for a similar get away.

Exactly what we needed, and really wish we'd had a whole week. It was peaceful, comfortable, with everything you'd need. We didn't realise there was even coffee to try the espresso machine! Next time... Brought my parents here as we'd stayed at the old Barrington Guest House when I was a kid. Still a beautiful area. We did the Blue Gum Track, and a whole lot of bird-watching, even seeing lyrebirds for the first time. Dungog is worth a visit - a small community-focused town. Hopefully we'll be back soon!
Very comfortable, snug, tucked I to the forest and right on the southern Barrington Tops walks. Lovely river, heaps of wildlife, birds etc. A real break away from Sydney. And all things mobile enabled. N few mins to Telstra access though for the addicts.
We were surrounded by nature. Visited morning, afternoon and evening by beautiful birds, kangaroos and a possum. Very quiet and peaceful place. Well equipped cabin and able to sleep 6 people. It was just perfect for our family of 3. We highly recommend this place. Thank you Cate for your reassurance and assistance.
