About this property

Docciole: Chianti Villa and Pool for 12

  • Docciole is a wonderful family villa, once a Tuscan farmhouse, converted and designed for family reunions - it provides large communal spaces as well as private areas in various parts of the building, equipped with individual kitchens. The pool is next to a furnished outdoor pergola area, with a barbecue for wonderful evenings eating al-fresco.

Everybody can congregate upstairs in the enormous living room or kitchen, but if you'd like a little quiet time just make your breakfast and re-join the fray when you've charged your batteries. Together with its proximity to a fantastic village in Chianti, Radda, with excellent restaurants and cafes, this makes it a perfect location for a large family gathering, or a group of friends. The price varies according to occupancy, so make sure you enter the right number of guests - or more if you each want a double bedroom.

The main living quarters are upstairs, up the well-trodden external stone steps. Immediately through the front door, one is drawn to the light flooding into the very large living room to the right. With chestnut beams soaring over the dining area to double height, the sheer volume of air and light create a marvellously welcoming space. To one side of the dining table for 8 a wooden staircase rises to a mezzanine containing two single beds, while the far end of the living area has sofas set in front of an open fireplace and a doorway leading to a generous country kitchen.

Modern appliances find harmony with a cooking fireplace, bread cupboard and long refectory table and become, in time-honoured tradition, the heart of this Tuscan home. Three double bedrooms are on this floor, one off the dining area and two down a side hall past a small study. All of the bedrooms are spacious and furnished with lovely fabrics and country antiques. The two bathrooms, one ensuite and one shared make great use of terracotta, Tuscany's much beloved material.

Further accommodations are on the ground floor - three large double-bedroom suites, each with a shower room, dining table, sufficient kitchen facilities to prepare a light meal and independent access to the outdoors. While the ground floor of the farmhouse does not have an internal staircase to the top floor, the three lower suites do interconnect, an ideal arrangement for a family unit. While the suites differ in look and layout, care has been taken to provide each with similar comforts. Apartment Tinaia, which you can see on the floorplan, is closed to guests, very occasionally used by family but is not rented out.

The garden at the back of the house, planted in fragrant, flowering shrubs and shaded by towering oaks, extends the living space. Under a vine-draped pergola, there is a table large enough for everyone to sit down to meals al fresco. There is a free-standing barbecue, a pizza oven, and sun beds to set on the wide lawn overlooking a raised pool bordered on one side by a wooden deck. Additional space is also available for group activities in a charming annexe across the drive from the house.

From the vineyards at the front of the estate the view of Radda in Chianti beckons guests to a first stop and is only one easily walked kilometer to the closest restaurant in the village. The unofficial capital of the region and a typical Chianti Village, Radda plays host to several festivals and events throughout the summer, most, though not all, having to do with what is poured into a glass. The closest restaurant, walkable in 1 km, is Vignale, and the Sandy Bar, which have good coffee, pastries, sandwiches and delicious gelato.

Nearby there are Castellina in Chianti, so prized by the Medici that they commissioned a fortress to protect it, Panzano and Greve in Chianti, whose street markets and wide piazzas are reasons for a visit and Castello di Brolio, where the standards for Chianti wine were set. The main cities of Tuscany like Florence, Siena and Arezzo can also be easily reached from this house.

A lovely house and location in the country.

Lovely house and location. The owners were on site and very warm and welcoming. We had a nice dinner with them in the local village. The house is peaceful but within walking distance of Radda which is a picture postcard perfect Tuscan village with good restaurants and high- quality shops and amenities.

The location, the property, the privacy and especially the hosts Anna Marie and Marchello. From the time we arrived to the time we left they could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Thank you for a special experience.

Wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Docciole. The home is spacious and fit our group of 11 comfortably. The outdoor space had beautiful views and we all enjoyed the pool on the hot days. Although there was no AC, the weather got cooler at night and so we slept comfortably. The city is a short walk from the house where there are cute shops, restaurants and cafés. Anna is a wonderful host who was always available if we needed anything and she suggested great places to visit.

Lovely Tuscan Villa

We were an extended family of 8 staying in Docciole. Anna the owner was very accommodating and helpful, and always available to answer questions, but kept a very low profile during our stay. We were also allowed a late check out to fit in with our return flight which was much appreciated. The traditional Tuscan villa was lovely, set on the hill side, surrounded by trees and vineyards and wonderfully quiet. Only a 20 minute walk into the beautiful town of Radda where there were plenty of restaurants and bars - useful as driving anywhere in Chianti is a slow process on hilly windy roads. We took advantage of the lovely outdoor eating area and traditional barbecue to enjoy the weather. The pool was also A lovely villa in a beautiful location in the heart of Chianti.

Idyllic holiday

Docciole is a beautiful family villa, full of charm and character, which we adored. It has a quirky, homely feel with Anna Maria and her family being fabulous hosts; friendly, welcoming and very helpful. The villa’s highlights are the outdoor eating space, pool and kitchen, all perfect for a multi-generational holiday. The beds are comfy with soft cotton sheets and the home is well stocked with everything needed, including a traditional cured meat slicer, a novelty which proved very useful given the selection from the deli! The relaxed town offers a small, but good selection of shops, cafes and bars, along with a municipal tennis court which we used a few times. The walk into town is along a road with no footpath on sections which, coupled with the speed of some drivers, needs careful attention especially if walking with children. There are a number of marked hiking routes from the town, which are well signposted. We had an amazing holiday and loved the villa and its family and history…..fascinating and beautiful. Invitation to Tuscany provided a gold star service, and helped me choose Docciole after listening to my specific requests and then arranged for a private wine tour of the area & groceries to be delivered on our arrival day. We have recommended you to our friends, and if we return to Tuscany, will be in touch.

A perfect Tuscan escape!

Amazing house — beautifully furnished and incredibly spacious! It stayed cool inside even during the hottest days, which was a big plus. The location is ideal: just a short walk from the charming town of Radda, so no need to use the car every day. The kitchen and dining area are so well equipped, you could easily host a dinner for an entire football team! The pool is another highlight — stunning views over the Tuscan hills, simply unforgettable. And the hosts? Absolutely lovely. You couldn’t ask for kinder or more helpful people. They were always there when we needed anything, without ever being intrusive. We had an early flight and didn’t get to say a proper goodbye — which only gives us more reason to return soon! Already dreaming of coming back for a longer stay

A delightful property with friendly hosts in a superb location.

We chose Docciole for its facilities, characterful appearance, setting and location within walking distance to Radda in Chianti. It delivered all we needed and more for a relaxing holiday immersed in Tuscany. The living accommodation is traditional, full of character and provides options for a large group to get together or split up and enjoy their own space. We enjoyed making use of the large, well equipped kitchen to prepare meals using local produce. We particularly loved the outdoor space - whether cooling off in the pool, eating under the shade of the vine covered pergola, cooking over wood, walking the olive grove observing the butterflies, birds and insects or just sitting on a grassy bank looking across the wooded valley towards glorious sunsets. Sighting occasional wild boar with their young and deer just topped it all off. Radda has everything you need and more from a historic, bustling local town in Tuscany. If you choose, the walk really is a gentle twenty minutes and there are stunning views on the way. We had excellent restaurant meals, did wine tasting and found friendly local cafes and shops - all on the doorstep.

Family holiday

We absolutely loved our time at Docciole. You will be welcomed by lovely Anna who’s family home it is. It is a typical Tuscan stone farmhouse with a lovely homely feeling and loads of space for living inside and out. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor kitchen under a grape vine pergola and the swimming pool surrounded by olive trees. It is exceptionally well equipped for cooking and eating Anna is a perfect host and responded to the small issues that cropped up. It is a short walk to charming Radda in Chianti with spectacular views across Tuscan countryside, some tourist shops and a useful Coop supermarket. It is perfectly situated to explore the Chianti region if you’re into wine, medieval villages or the spectacular Sienna and Florence. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
