The St. John went above and beyond and helped have a bottle of wine in our room for when we arrived. The front desk especially was warm, kind, and welcoming. Truly love the history of the place and all around feel!

Staff was lovely. Great choices for a continental breakfast. Rooms were clean and adequate. Comfortable bedding. Parking lot was very tight and limited with spaces-we parked on the adjacent street. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Very comfortable room. The continental breakfast was nice. The staff was very quiet but nice when asked a question. The parking is terrible but they do have another lot a block away.

We loved how old the inn was and how it was restored. Our room was so spacious and clean. We loved this place and would highly recommend!!! One thing, steep stairs but definitely worth it. Breakfast was good and staff was great. We loved it

Nice clean hotel. Don’t believe those saying area is unsafe. No people were even out and about except for daily business. Parking is tight, you might be referred to a lot a very short walk away. Hotel is over 120 years old, they have maintained the decor of the period, and in some spots it needs some attention, but it would not detract from the stay. We had a room on the side and it was quiet and comfortable.

It's a historic hotel of years past. But a great find for the money. Personally we really liked it. Small and quaint. Make sure you get a room with a private if you need one. Stairs are steep. Breakfast is a nice touch. Location excellent.

This is an old building with a lot of charm. The room was okay. Very dark and couldn’t open the blinds as it faced the street and we were on the street level. Could have done with better lighting. Also the bed was slightly lower on one side which made it quite uncomfortable. Could be just that bed needs attention otherwise, it was rather charming. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Lots of extras like snacks, coffee, water provided all day. Easy to walk around rather than driving.

Very classic inn vibe that was just a short drive away from the city center. Note there is no elevator for those of you with large suitcases and the stairs are a little steep and tight, but we had no issue getting our checked bag up and down from the third floor, and staff offered to help us both times. The shared bathroom was clean and the provided robes were a nice touch! Consider bringing shower shoes or flip flops to make it easier to use. Parking was easy, and if the small lot right next to the building fills up, they have a parking lot just a block away that was just as easy to use. Breakfast was also a nice touch although the area was a little tight. Expect bagels, toast, yogurt, and simpler stuff along those lines.

The Hotel was very nice. It's very old so some of stair creek. But the rooms were very clean and fairly good size for a very hotel. The staff was very nice and were very happy to help with directions to get around town. There were only a few restaurants near there within walking range. But the Thai Restaurant next door is one of the best that I've ever been too. The location is very good too as it doesn't take long to the downtown or promenade sections.

Quirky old 3 story hotel 20-30 min walk from the central Portland area with much pricier hotels, museum, waterfront, etc. All basics fine, aircon works well & quietly, free parking/cold breakfast/coffee. Be aware: 1) some rooms shared bath: 2) most rooms up 1-3 steep narrow staircases; no elevator.

Clean and friendly. Would not be a place for people who have trouble with stairs. The location seemed removed from waterfront activities but Portland is quite small and walkable. We would return. Suggestion: With the shared bathroom, an exhaust fan and or air fresheners would go a long way.

Room was adequate for one overnight. I understood the room size requirements, but the furniture made the space feel cramped. I was also aware there was no elevator, but that being said, theres not really a space between floors for you to stop and catch your breath on. Also it had a mild musty smell. Breakfast was bare bones but was included so thats fine. Quick 10 minutes from the airport which was nice.

It’s really an interesting quirky hotel in an incredibly convenient location. It’s old and the rooms are small. There’s no elevator and the stairs are quite steep. Bathroom is down the hall. The bathroom situation was fine once I worked out that the door sticks. No issues using it or having to wait. Parking lot is small but they do have an overflow lot a block away. It was a fun stay.

Mediocre, but suitable for what we needed. Staff was lovely. Helpful and friendly. Rooms were big and reasonably clean. It was easy to keep the noise and light out. Tastefully furnished. Comfy bed. The computerized check-in process was very inefficient and confusing. The place was a bit worn around the edges. I was really looking forward to the jacuzzi tub but only 2 of the 6~ jets worked and tub itself, although clean, looked a little grungy. Location was on a main street and the walk to the waterfront was something I would not have done after dark. I don’t think it was worth $357/night, but it was less expensive than other properties closer to the water.

loved the charm of the old building and the furnishings. Breakfast was very good with many options considering the limited space. glad we had a room on the 1st floor as it looked like it would have been hard for us at our age (72) to climb the stairs with luggage. parking was a challenge but your solution with using a nearby lot was great.
