Stone-built Cottage In A Tranquil Setting With Views Over Rosedale
**Rates reduced by 10% from 22nd August to 27th September** The Mushroom House is a stone-built cottage in a small row nestling on the eastern side of Rosedale about 1.5 miles outside Rosedale Abbey village. It is in a tranquil setting on a road which ends further up the dale and so has little traffic. The view from the front of the house looks out right across the valley of Rosedale with its farmhouses and extensive fields. The row of old iron-miners' cottages is made up of a mixture of permanent residences and second homes and so the area is consequently very quiet and peaceful. You can step outside the door, pull on your walking boots or get on your bike, and set straight off into Rosedale and the surrounding moors and dales for a gentle stroll or a serious jaunt – whatever suits you – there are no pressures out here away from it all. If you want to explore a little further then in a one-hour radius you have everything from the wonderful seaside town of Whitby, the quaint Runswick Bay, the magnificent Castle Howard, ancient York, pretty Helmsley and even a theme park at Flamingoland not to mention Scampston Gardens and Dalby Forest. This is just a small selection and there’s more information in the Location section of this site and in the box full of leaflets and guides in the cottage itself. Rosedale Abbey village has two tea-shops and three hostelries (all serving food) and there are other excellent places a few miles further away such as the New Inn at Cropton (with its own brewery) and the Blacksmiths at Lastingham. Then of course there’s always Whitby fish and chips! The house itself has 3 bedrooms upstairs (1 with super-king-sized bed, 1 with double bed and 1 with single top bunk and a child's pull-out bed) and a lounge, kitchen and bathroom downstairs. We have decorated and furnished the house to a high standard so that our guests will feel well looked-after, relaxed and at home. The comfortable lounge has two sofas and an open fire. All three bedrooms are decorated in individual styles with lovely views from all windows. There’s a garden to play in at the front and a secluded lawn at the back ideal for barbeques on the fire pit. The house has a modern and well-equipped kitchen as well as a modern bathroom with bath, shower, basin & WC (towels not provided). At the front of the house is a stone patio which looks out over beautiful Rosedale. At the rear is a secluded lawn backing onto the fields and ideal for sitting quietly or barbecuing. If you want a real idea of the place then read the reviews our past guests have kindly written. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

The Mushroom House is a delightful place to stay in an amazing location. The property was spotless and very nicely decorated. We had everything we needed for a wonderful family holiday.
The cottage is wonderfull, clean and well organized. It has a lovely garden with a stunning view. A lot to see and do in the area, not very far from the cottage. We had a lovely time!
Lovely property in what is quite a remote location. Ideal for walking and exploring. Property is exceptionally well equipped and decorated to a high standard. Peaceful location and highly recommended.
The cottage is a short distance outside Rosedale Abbey and has an amazing view down the dale. It has everything you could need and is warm and comfortable. We visited in September and used it as a base to explore the moors.
This was our first visit to the North Yorkshire Moors but we will definitely be back!
Cosy holiday house in a rural setting, located at the edge of the Yorkshire moors. We enjoyed walks on the moors, but the house was also conveniently close to seaside villages like Whitby and Scarborough. Small but comfortable living room, nicely decorated bedrooms. Nice front and back yard
The cottage is in a great location, just over a mile from the village of Rosedale Abbey.
The views from the cottage are outstanding!
Everything was provided for an enjoyable stay.
A slight problem regarding bedding was quickly resolved, so this is not a complaint, it's a positive!
Would definitely consider a return visit.
We had a wonderful holiday as a family of three in the holiday home.It was beautifully furnished and well equipped, the bed was very comfortable, and the immediate surroundings were lovely—with a farm, many hiking trails, and charming towns nearby. The neighbors were very friendly and gave us great tips for day trips. We went on many excursions to the coast and to the surrounding towns. The house is quite remote when it comes to supermarkets, and some of the roads are very steep, which takes a bit of getting used to at first. The bathroom is on a different floor than the bedrooms, and it was quite cold in there, especially in the mornings. All in all, we really enjoyed our two-week stay and would love to come back.
First off, a note of caution: please read the welcome info carefully, as you will need to bring your own towels and may also wish to bring paper towels and toilet paper (the latter is supplied but not abundant). I'm putting this at the beginning of my review because there is nowhere to buy these things without a 30-minute drive, so it's really important. This charming attached cottage is in one of the most peaceful and secluded locations I've ever stayed in -- in the mornings, you awaken to the sound of sheep and birdsong, and cars are quite rare. The gardens surrounding the cottage and adjacent dwellings are beautifully tended. The cottage itself was spotless and cozy: two comfortable couches in the living room, an enormous and vastly comfortable king-size bed in the main bedroom, thoughtful touches throughout. We would absolutely stay here again. To reach the cottage, there are several routes, but we ended up driving across the moor, which was a lovely introduction to this part of Yorkshire. The kitchen is very well-equipped. Here are a few notes that visitors may find helpful: dishwasher tablets are supplied, but only a few, so you may want to bring some for a longer stay; likewise, no laundry detergent is supplied; the bathroom can be quite chilly, so turn on towel warmer a few hours before you take your shower; best to bring your own spices, tea, sugar, etc.; dishes are in LR cabinet and silverware in table. Note: only bathroom is downstairs (tricky at night).
Received good directions and instructions. Key box easy to use. Would be good if cutlery could be stored in kitchen. Really enjoyed sitting out & enjoying the view from the front patio.
Nice Cottage in a Nice area very close to Rosedale Abbey with its tearoom in the center of the village
We explored the area which is much worth visiting
It is al lovely cottage. For just the two of us more than enough room. The surroundings are beautiful. Had a few day with lovely weather and had breakfast and diner outside in the frontyard with the view over the dale.It is a good starting point for walks, even if you are not an everyday hiker. There are nice tearooms an restaurants nearby. And by car you can go to all kind of interesting places. And after a day out you come back to the peaceful and quiet place. We had a wonderful time in a lovely home.
