The checkin process was really friendly and fast. Our room was clean and charming. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious - it's a popular spot!! We then had a few drinks in the bar and loved that it was a real country pub and everyone was up for a chat and a laugh. We're booking to come back with friends - we loved it.
I loved everything about my stay here, from the wonderful staff, to the fantastic restaurant and bar downstairs, to the quaint little room upstairs. Very historic, very fun.
Lovely old pub with character in a lovely town in the Hunter region. The managers were a lovely family who sat and chatted with us over a beer and shared some of the pub and the town’s history and local happenings.
Very clean facilities.
The staff were very friendly, helpful and good at there jobs. Food was excellent, room clean, but needed better locks on doors, and TV that worked.
Bathrooms clean plenty of water, some sort of breakfast would be a good idea, had to drive about 12 klm to get decent coffee and something to eat
Would stay there again, great place
We loved this place. The hotel had such character, the best bit being the verandah. Wonderful atmosphere and great food in the pub. Staff fantastic. Being a pub it was a bit noisy on a Saturday night.
Paxton Hotel is traditional rural hotel, cafe and pub. It has real character, like the people you meet when staying there. We lost so many of our local, privately owned hotels serving the whole community in the UK decades ago, don't let that happen here. You will regret it if you do!

Original mid 1900's everything, share bathroom/toilets... could be a challenge if I wasnt the only person staying there.
Clean, but very old. Staff friendly.
No AC in room, fan only.
Limited self-serve breakfast facilities, old condiments and frozen bread.
Had a good burger from the bistro the day before.
Ok for emergency accommodation only, like if you had too much to drink at the pub and couldnt drive.
It was an authentic Aussie weekend away. Not all would appreciate the atmosphere, but we felt like a local & were well taken care of. The beds were clean & comfy & the food was excellent. Really appreciated the efforts of the owners & their staff. Thanks for having us.
Wonderful! Didn’t win a meat tray but sure was fun!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Great old pub. Pity it was heatwave conditions. There was no aircon in our room. No mozzie screens on the georgeous double doors to the equally lovely 2nd storey verandah. The ceiling fan groaned at us all night and I am so glad we took our own fan with us as it did allow us to get some sleep in the very warm, stuffy room. Thank goodness for the beautiful shower room just across the hall. It allowed me to freshen up before trying to get some sleep.
There was NO hot water at 18:00. We travelled the whole day and my 2 little girls were so looking forward to a nice warm bath.
The television didn't work, there was no wifi.
The barlady/hostess was quite rude, no house rules or clear communication.
The family room didn't resemble the photos as advertised.
The bathroom itself was dirty, there was old hair in the bath.
