Beautiful, well equipped, riverside cabin. Host communications were exceptional. Cabin was clean and in excellent condition. We hope to return again during the warmer months to take advantage of fishing and boating opportunities!
We really enjoyed our stay on the river. Quiet neighborhood. Enjoyed the deck, the views of the river and the beautiful oak tree. Communications with Jason were excellent when we had questions. The area has some very good local restaurants and we enjoyed the state parks.
The house was perfect for our blended family of 8! Sleeping arrangements went well with every one! The neighbors were friendly. Home owners were easy to work with and gave great recommendations on what parks to visit and where to eat.
We had an amazing time at this cabin! Perfect spot for a fishing trip with friends. The cabin was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed. The location by the river made it easy to fish right from the dock, and we loved relaxing by the fire pit in the evenings. Plenty of space for all five of us, and the peaceful surroundings were exactly what we wanted. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great outdoor getaway!
We really enjoyed staying here. The owner was very nice and answered all our questions. We loved being right on the river and we caught a lot of fish (bass and big catfish). We drove to Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Park and went hiking there. We couldn't wait to get back to the cabin after hiking to relax. All the furniture, beds and bedding were very comfortable. The cabin is nicely decorated, beautiful wood furnishings and taxidermy. We would definitely stay here again!
Wanted the Starved Rock Lodge experience in one house and got it!
Right on the river - check.
Lots of animals on the walls - check.
Lots of woodwork everywhere - check.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time coming together as a family with the cabin as a homebase.
The house was very clean and the decor was very attractive. We caught 3-5 pound catfish in the river on stink bait.
I do have a few suggestions. Remove the small rugs that never stay where intended. Drop the “no shoes in house” rule. If the rug between the TV and the couch is the reason for the rule, remove the rug. It is unnecessary. The Wi-Fi instructions have a typo. The password is Wedronwifi, not Wedronwife. I realize this is insignificant as I am the only person in Illinois without a cell phone and own Wi-Fi service.
We enjoyed our stay.
We loved our stay at this location. We had a friend who owns a boat and would pick us up out back and we’d spend the entire day out on the river! We magnet fished off the back and canoed through bar up the street. We went cliff jumping and also went to starved rock and Mathiesen State Park. We ordered the best stuffed pizza I’ve ever had from a pizza place in Norway, and also ate a few times in Wedron. We had our family and friends come visit us at the vrbo and there was plenty of room for everyone. The weather was perfect and the beds or so comfortable! We slept super good while we were there! If you like to cook a lot, you may consider bringing some of your cookware from home (they have just basics). The neighbors we met were friendly but most of them pretty much kept to themselves. Jason was very friendly and accommodating. The rental had lots of movies and DVDs to watch. There were also lots of toys. All the houses down by the river are on a well system so if you have never lived in a home that worked off a well before then you should know that it’s best to run one water system at a time (washer, shower, toilet). We stayed 2 1/2 weeks and we loved every second. It was the most relaxing vacation weve ever had.
Outstanding house, especially if you like shore fishing! Worms and corn can get you some big fish. Biggest one we got was 8.5 pounds this time! The house itself is awesome inside and outside! Would 100% recommend. I have been to this house several times already, and will be coming back again for sure!
We spent a wonderful weekend fishing with friends and rented this house on the river. We absolutely loved everything about our stay. The fish were biting well, and the house was very clean and cozy. The interior of the house is beautiful, all finished in wood, which creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Our kids also enjoyed it very much and had a great time. Fishing was convenient right from the pier, which was a big plus for us.I highly recommend this house for fishing trips and family vacations!
Jason was a great host and provided a lot of information. Everywhere you look inside and outside of the home shows beautiful craftsmanship and uniqueness. Highly recommended, would definitely stay again.
Unique, Comfortable Cabin to relax, fish, have a fire in a peaceful setting.
My daughter from Canada came to Illinois for a visit with family. My grandchildren love to fish and we wanted to visit Starve Rock. This cabin was perfect for her visit. I highly recommend the cabin with all the perserved deer, moose & bear. I really liked the large loft bedroom with patio overlooking lake and the large deck.
The host was very friendly and provided all the information we needed. The property was very clean and well maintained. The beds and other furniture were very comfortable, and the kitchen had all the things we needed. I can honestly say that I was very jealous that I don't own that property, it was just so peaceful and comfortable with a great back area right on the river. It was truly a great stay.
The cabin is unique and located on the river. The property manager had excellent communication and was very personable. This was our second visit to this cabin. Deeper cleaning would be a plus (cob webs in corner windows and by the mounts/ railing upstairs and clean underneath beds). Otherwise, great stay!
We met family half way between ND and SC. The cabin was so cute and the perfect size for the 7 of us. The kids loved the room with the bunk beds. The large dining room table and outdoor patio furniture was great for all sitting together. The neighbors are nice but I was chased down the road by a loose dog while running. Fishing was fun for the kids- lots of small cat fish and drum were caught. Very relaxing and beautiful property. Would definitely recommend and return.
We had our family weekend celebration of the Fourth of July on the property. The pictures available on the website did not give justice to this property, it’s more beautiful and impressive in-person. The property is well-equipped with a grill, blue-toothed speaker, a fire pit and a smart TV. We just stayed out on the patio the whole day. We kayaked on the Fox River, made some barbecue, s’mores on the fire pit, karaoke at night and had an amazing weekend. We will definitely go back.
