Room 401 was excellent, spacious, quiet and private. Hotel roof terrace was lovely (even in the rain!). Dinner and breakfast (Japanese) very good and staff very helpful in explaining the various dishes. Great location for temples/ deer park etc.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
A spectacular stay at New Wakasa. The location is perfect, the staff incredibly kind and attentive, and the rooms were beautiful and comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were amazing. We also loved the thoughtful touches, especially the photo they took of us and the souvenirs. The baths were very clean and relaxing. 100% recommend.
We have been to many onsen ryokan and the quality has been declining in general in terms of food and amenities but Hotel New Wakasa made us want to book our trip to it again next year!
It is considered as one of our best onsen ryokan experience in the past ten years for overall quality.
I didn’t know their staff names but all of them are welcoming with a good smile and helpful. Our teenage birthday boy got a surprise dessert platter at dinner which was very thoughtful and we appreciated it soooo much coz we didn’t know where to get a cake nearby 😆
The deer decorations are everywhere and we just enjoyed everything in the hotel so much! Rooms are clean and tatami beddings are very comfortable. We are a party of two groups. One is a double room for two people and one is with private onsen for a group of 4. Staff put our rooms next to each other which is very thoughtful because we didn’t even request it.
Both rooms were immaculate. The bathrooms are very clean and well equipped. The hairdryer in our room is sth I really like! The Toto electronic toilet bowl control has such a sleek design and being installed at the best position.
We had a truly relaxing and joyful experience in Nara and would like to once again extend our gratitude to all of the staff in the hotel because they made our stay over the top.
Parking spots: can easily find one nearby.
Lovely place with the kindest staff and a beautiful onsen. My room had the sauna and there was a lot of traffic noise from the main road so maybe not ideal for light sleepers but overall a great stay.
We loved the proximity to Nara Park and feeding the deer. The rooms and food was amazing. Great onsen, and of course playing with the deer was best for kids.
We cannot say enough great tings about this hotel. The staff was outstanding and the property is very traditional. We really enjoyed the personal touches and little details to welcome you during the check in process.
Hotel New Wakasa lifts the fame of Japanese hospitality to another level.
I have never been so welcomed by a hotel where their offering and servicing is so customer oriented, leaving a very impressive memory from start til checking out
The quality on the catering side was slightly below par but was justified by the price they charged.
All in all, it is a very nice accommodation to relax and the experience was well above expectations
We had a great time, wishing we could have stayed longer. The hospitality of the staff and amazing customer service definitely will make me come back. Give everyone a raise please.
Excellent location. We walked to the hotel with luggage from the train station,10 minutes down a cool street. Used a holylfy e sim for GPS and downloaded the Taxi Go App to get back to the train station for under $8. The New Wakasa staff made the absolute best check in, you have to go to experience it. Rolled out the red carpet, made sure we were comfortable from check in to check out. Breakfast was awesome, we did 1 japanese style and 1 western style. Both great, but Japanese style was such a lovely display. You can walk to the Deer Park, walk to temples. The Onsen was super nice and we both had the room to ourselves. The rooftop terrace gave us a beautiful sunrise view. I honestly feel this was one of my best hotel experiences ever, 5 stars in my opinion. The gift shop was cool and just 3 doors down, not towards the deer park, but the other direction was a really nice cookie and sweets shop.
It seems like a smaller business. The staff were very polite and helpful. We had a standard room with japanese style breakfast and dinner. Both were good experiencies. Also reserved the private bath which was nice with a good view.
Room was newly renovated and cozy.
Daily activities in Nara combined with the hotel was one of our best days in Japan. Would highly recommend
The staff here is absolutely wonderful. They were so kind and helpful. We had one of the smaller rooms, but still way more spacious than something in Tokyo within our price range. The room and private bath were so beautiful. We ordered the Japanese dinner and breakfast and it is a must if you stay here! You’ll try foods authentic to Nara specifically and the amount you receive is more than plenty. Would highly recommend this stay to anyone even for just one night, as that is what we did to relax in the middle of our busy trip.
We had a great experience at New Hotel Wakasa and the staff were super helpful. We arrived to Nara early and the hotel was able to hold our luggage for us. During checkout, they were also able to hold our luggage for us (before 3pm) so we could spend one last afternoon in Nara luggage free before leaving the city. The hotel has been renovated and the rooms each have a unique interior design with really high quality finishes and fixtures. We got the breakfast and dinner options at the hotel and the food was great. Finally, the public bath was a great way to end the day. The hotel is a bit further from the main stores and shopping area (10-13min walk) but it is quite close to Nara park area and a few local spots. We would definitely come back in the future!
First time at a Ryokan. Wonderful experience from when we first arrived until we left. Room was beautiful and private onsen was luxurious, we spent a lot of time there! 100% get the Breakfast and dinner package, it was such a unique experience with lovely traditional meals and it was very large portion for 2 people. They also provided a lot of free amenities that we could take home with us including photographs and a traditional pouch/bag. i would definitely recommend this Ryokan to anyone planning to visit Nara.
If you’re looking for a Ryokan experience with the nicest staff, this is your place. Central to most sites and k-Nara station. We stayed on night in a traditional room and had a great experience
