This centrally located hotel was my home for four days in Merida. The room was no frills but it was good, the bathroom/shower was large. The staff were kind and friendly and you could tell they were happy to be there. Short walk to Parque San Juan, a little more to Plaza Grande.. Merida centro at its cultural best. Thanks for a great visit.

The rooms we got were clean (sheets and bathrooms). Installations need lots of improvements, updates. One of the rooms lacked of window so it was claustrophobic. Is convening location for those looking to be close to the ADO bus station.

The room was fine and the staff courteous but the wifi was laughable and the hot water wasn't warm enough to shower. Major points for location. Right in the historic district. But if I can't shower or check my email I'm not going above 3 stars.

Merida trip

Very economical hotel across the street from the bus terminal. Comfortable room and cordial check in. Good restaurant. I would recommend the chilequillas con pollo

The only windows in these rooms are in the bathroom and let out into the interior of the hotel. Meaning when you walk to your room your walk through scent of mixed people poo. Then they had to nerve to say “no smoking” just because I have dreadlocks. A joint would have covered the poo smell that lingered the whole stay.

Mi experiencia en el Hotel El Español fue muy negativa. Durante mi estancia ocurrió un accidente grave: mi hijo pisó un vidrio en el área de camastros, lo que evidencia falta de limpieza y protocolos de seguridad básicos en áreas comunes. El incidente requirió atención médica, suturas y seguimiento posterior, generando gastos médicos por aproximadamente $8,000 MXN, los cuales el hotel no asumió ni atendió adecuadamente. El personal no mostró una respuesta clara ni empática ante la situación, y en ningún momento se ofreció una solución o apoyo real. Considero inaceptable que un hotel permita condiciones que pongan en riesgo a los huéspedes, especialmente a menores. No recomiendo este hotel y solicito que Expedia revise el caso y me apoye con el seguimiento correspondiente.

One of the two rooms we rented had no door to the bathroom (only a termite-eaten door frame). Also, the bathroom sink handles were not shutting-off the flow of water so we had to use the shutoff valves under the sink instead. We had a very late arrival, otherwise we would have left and looked for another hotel. The staff was not friendly or forthcoming (made us feel unimportant to their business). The second room was ok (just average). The use of fragance inside the rooms and very poor ventilation was somewhat unpleasant.
