Boa

Overpriced with many issues.
First the good points - the hotel is situated right next to the Opera House in a touristy part of town, surrounded by half a dozen nice restaurants in the Square. This is important because many (most?) restaurants in Manaus seem to shut on both Sundays and Mondays, except those around the Square. The offices of a few tour agencies (Amazon trips, boat rides, etc) are also within 2 mins walk.
Despite its age, the rooms and hotel have been refurbished, with flat-panel TV sets and modern bathrooms. This makes it look superficially nice, but once you get into the room, the problems begin. The big issue was lack of hot water. We stayed 4 nights, and had hot water for showers only on the first morning. When we complained to the desk clerk they just shrugged as if to say 'What do you expect me to do about it?' This problem still hadn't been fixed by the time we checked out.
We spotted a number of cockroaches that ran out of and in to cracks in the walls and skirting boards. The breakfast was disappointing -a poor selection of juices and fried 'things' (no labels so we didn't know what most of them were), which didn't change from day to day. The staff would cook a fried egg for us - if we asked - but fried egg on stale toast got a bit 'samey' after a few days.
The reception staff spoke little English but were all friendly, and seemed to be trying their best to accommodate us. It just seemed to us that this was a 1-star hotel trying to be a 3-star hotel.

Meio decepcionante

Hotel bacana. Antigo.

Convenient location, nice rooms
Located minutes by foot from places of interest, best restaurants and Amazon tour operators' offices, this is a reasonably priced hotel with helpful staff and nice rooms. Asked at the reception about best fish and meat restaurants in the walking distance, got excellent advice. The only inconvenience detected: we could not figure out how to turn off/turn down the AC. Getting too cold in tropical climate was a bit unusual.

Good location
The overall experience is nice for this price range. I especially like the breakfast with many local foods. Remember to spend the night at the plaza in front of the Opera House just 2 mins of walking from the hotel. If you want a hot shower during the day you will disappoint but you won't need it anyway with the weather in Manaus.
