8/10 Good

"Bad smell from pillows and quilt. Dirty dishes at breakfast. Both not OK and both easy to fix. Hope they do. I would expect a hotel to quality-check these things continuosly. Worth noting is that we did not have the problems mentioned above when visiting last time (a year ago). Otherwise a nice place with great facilities and a quiet location outside of Aix, about a 20-minute drive to the city's old town."

"We had a really lovely stay. The hotel staff were very lovely, particularly Martin, Michael and the lovely lady at the pool bar. The facilities were excellent, loved our room with balcony and the bed was so comfortable. The pool was great and not over crowded. The buffet breakfast was the best we’ve had on our trip so far. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be back!"

"Very nice place, big and well equipped. The house is functional and has many things which turned out during the stay to be useful. As a minor critic - the SMEG coffee machine brews very slowly. It takes about 45 minutes to have a coffee. The sink drain kept getting clogged, and we had to use the plunger that was provided to get the water flowing again, although it only worked for a short time. A big plus is the pool - absolut highlight of the premise. Also using the Petanque field gave us great pleasure. I can recommend the house and would go back again."

The attention to detail in every aspect of our stay was amazing; and the dinner in the restaurant should not be missed. "There are some really lovely things about this hotel, including the wonderful gardens, a great pool and a fantastic breakfast. However, for a five star hotel, my deluxe room felt very basic and the bathroom was cramped with no windows and no storage space. The most disappointing thing was the staff. Our experience was extremely mixed we had a very good initial welcome but then a waitress for supper at the pool bar was dismissive and very unfriendly and that was the experience throughout There was unfortunately a fire alarm in the middle of the night when we were there, which caused all guest to vacate their rooms. These things happen but I was against surprised that for a small family run hotel there was no word of apology for the inconvenience verbally or in writing from members of staff. So a mixed day, but for the money, I don’t think I would be back despite the lovely garden and breakfast"

"Chateau de la Gaude is a stunning property, with excellent on site dining experiences, beautifully appointed, modern rooms, and a spectacular garden. What keeps this hotel from being a five star experience for me, was the rather lackluster staff. No one was rude, just moderately not helpful."
