Miss Barbara was amazing, and there's no question that I'd stay here again. It wasn't busy at all during our week-long stay, which made for such a peaceful departure from other endeavors nearby.
It also gave us the feel that this was a bespoke service, with Barbara cooking us breakfast herself and offering us the kindest casual conversation and local-area advice and insight.
Her husband, Udo, is a true gentleman and a DARN good cook! He runs the kitchen at Restaurant Traube on the main floor, and I will say that most evenings there are QUITE busy, unlike the general feel of the upper hotel floors. We had a fantastic meal there, enjoyed and savored over several hours.
As expected--Kallstadt being right there on the Süddeutsche Weinstraße--the restaurants selection of exceptional local and regionally renowned VDP estates was on full display, from archetypical stalwarts like Knipser and Kühn, to more recent shooting stars like Rings.
I know that right now it's incredibly hard to find lodging in the greater Kaiserslautern metro area. For those willing to drive about 35 minutes east of there, you'd find peaceful repose here at the Traube.
Your heart (and your belly) will truly be full!
