We stayed at four different hotels on this trip. All were good but ASO Kalamata was undeniably the best. They do the little things right that other hotels can't or won't do, such as a corkscrew in the room and your choice of four different pillows to best suit your personal sleep style. Street parking was easy in September either directly in front of the hotel or across the street, and the breakfast was fabulous. Finally, you could really tell each employee was extremely passionate both about the hotel and their guests. If you have reason to be in Kalamata and want to be anywhere near the harbor, this is the only place to be.
The Aso hotel has been beautifully restored using its history as a raison storage in its design. Many antique items rescued from the building have been restored and displayed in the hotel. Only opened for about a month, the decor and attention to detail is amazing. The rooms are thoughtfully kitted out with lovely personal touches and gifts for the guests. The staff were super helpful and knowledgeable both about the local area and the history of the hotel. Special shout out to Eleni. The breakfast was super, huge variety of local products and the most lovely homemade pastries. We were lucky enough to be offered a gorgeously light custard pastry straight from the oven. The location, next to the harbour is ideally situated for walking to the beaches as well as into the town centre and on to the old town through the lovely railway park. We will definitely be going back
