Staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. Décor in lobby, Madison's restaurant and Hummingbird lounge was charming and welcoming. It was cold outside so the many fireplaces were comforting and welcoming. Our room was a good size with a very comfortable bed, great sheets and nicely decorated. Overall, this is a great place. My only issue was with the bathroom in our room. While it had great amenities (love the towels), it is not designed for short people - getting in and out of the tub/shower combo was a bit of a challenge.
My husband and I stayed at Old Edwards Inn to celebrate our anniversary and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was so friendly and professional and everyone we came in contact with was so courteous. We had such a lovely stay.
recommend better time to stay around Highlands, is not during the late winter months as several restaurants close for the season. book reservations well in advance of any stay as best ones book up early and tougher to find somewhere to eat at the last minute. hotel restaurants also book up quickly. you can always cancel later.
there are 2 Sections to stay: Inn Facility is right downtown. the Lodge facilities are only 1 block away and are much more quiet than the Inn and very peaceful and walking distance to the hotel for breakfast and the main street for shopping.
16 of us found the Lodge Game Room at the lodge and brought our own beverages and watch football and there still was plenty of room for others to join.
This place is absolutely incredible. It was romantic, secluded, peaceful, and breathtakingly beautiful. We actually extended our stay because we were so pleased. The staff was above and beyond kind, helpful, and professional at every encounter. Worth every penny. We will be back.
Up-upscale, beautiful landscaping, classic dark wooden beams/paneling, best location, good food, excellent staff, some "over trained", thus annoying. Campus atmosphere requires walking-unless you stay in main bldg.Heated-tile floor in bathroom is nice.
As a northeaster I would describe it as the Hamptons of the NC mountains. Not cheap, but worth every dollar. Great restaurants and plenty to do for the outdoorsman.
Great weekend relaxing on the NC mountains. The food was very good specially the fresh trout. Great hiking and a visit to the spa at the resort is the cherry on top of the weekend.
We loved Old Edwards Inn & Spa! We stayed in 2013 built Falls Cottages and they were BEAUTIFUL. A lovely salt-water pool was just a short walk away, with poolside beverage and lunch service - couldn't be more relaxing. We went on walks around the adorable town each day and checked out a nice little hike (Sunset Rock) nearby. There is still more to see and we plan on returning soon.
Our trip was a quick getaway for our anniversary. Old Edwards (and the town of Highlands) exceeded our expectations in every way. The service and facilities at Old Edwards are absolutely top-notch. We will definitely go back.
It exceeded all expectations! I would give it a 5 or 6 star! Travelocity also was of the greatest assistance in helping us with the reservations..The person that booked for us was professional and personable and made it happen for us in a usually sold out place.. She had the expertise to handle a special request.. this being our anniversary and all. I will use again and refer you in the future to friends and family. First time using Travelocity and it was GREAT!! Also, impressed that you had access to bookings at this exquisite place!!! Thank You. All the Best. Patricia Overton
It was our 43rd wedding anniversary and we could not have stayed anywhere nicer. If we had not had doctor appointments the day of arrival and day of departure we would have extended our time because it was absolutely the most comfortable and beautiful resort we've ever stayed. And we have stayed at Ritz Carltons, Grove Park Inn, Pinehurst, and many other four and five star accomadations throughout the world. It was a pleasant surprise also for us to have been upgraded to a suite upon our arrival.
As sometimes has happened in the past I forgot to pack up a few items in the room. Never in the forty plus years we've been traveling have we ever been contacted by the hotel after we left about things we left and asked if we would like for them to be mailed to us at no charge. I have even called hotels before within twenty-four hours asking them to check on items I've left behind and had hoped they would be willing to mail them to us with us paying the charge and not been successful in the hotels helping find our things or send them back. So we have become a loyal patron of Old Edwards Inn and Spa for life.
Everything was good about our trip other then some stuff they missed cleaning in our room and they were working on something behind ou room which was noisy.
One of the very best luxury hotel experiences. We felt treated like royalty, and it did not feel like the hotel was trying to get every last dime from us the way that some do. There is an overall feeling of generosity that must stem from the owners. The food is very good - not the best ever, but perfectly fine, minus a cheese plate at the bar which was clearly pulled together last minute. But everyone tried their best to help us celebrate a very special occasion, and we will be back. This will always be a very heart warming place for us.
We had great service, and the amenities were many. An outstanding location and facility for a getaway weekend--even though it was very cold outside.

So disappointed..
I was looking forward to going to going here. My husband & I made reservations to stay several days after Christmas. In October, I called the spa to book a couples massage. Overall, the hotel is nice. Our room was clean & spacious. My husband & I showed up to the spa for our 11 am appointment, to find out that it was never actually made. Considering it was one of the main reasons we went, I was pretty upset. They were able to fit us in for massages about 1.5 hours later. So we went ahead and had lunch at the spa (which was basically $40 for mediocre chicken salad and hummus.. Don't waste your time or money!) and waited patiently for our delayed appointments. Unfortunately, my husband and I were separated for our appointments and my massage therapist was terrible. He was a loud breather and I could hear him loudly sigh multiple times through our appointment. The massage did not feel good, in fact he was almost rough and sloppy when it came to appropriately draping me and whatnot. The lights in the room weren't dimmed. I couldn't wait for it to end. Then when I found out my husband had the same experience, we were pretty upset about paying nearly $400 for such a terrible spa day. Oddly enough, I heard another customer complaining about how they screwed up her appointment. She said "my husband and I got married here last year and I feel like we are barely getting base service". Touché my friend. NEVER going back.
