Hayfield is a lovely small town in a beautiful area of the country. It is an ideal location if you enjoy walking.
The staff at the George are welcoming and friendly.
The staff were super friendly, Ben in particular who was excellent! Nice surprise for our room to have a jet-bath.

We stayed just one night unfortunately for us there was no food due to an issue with gas supply but managed to get something to eat later in the village..we were given a slightly better room with a spa bath due to our room having faulty lights, the service and prices on par with most other places around £5 a pint the bed was very comfortable but some road noise during the night as people seem to move around in the very early hours but overall staff were very helpful...
The Hotel was in an amazing location, right opposite the Sett Valley Trail which is a lovely flat walk with nice views. The pub is really nice with great food and we could not fault the staff, Ben and Doug were absolutely incredible hosts and were so accommodating and friendly! The room was brilliant with loads of character and everything you could need! If we ran out of everything the hosts were more than happy to give us extras. The breakfast that was included was lovely and just enough to sustain us for the walks! The George is just along the road from a lovely tea room and chocolatier that does incredible cakes (Millie's) and round the corner from a brilliant Italian (Colosseo), as well as being around a 20 minute drive from Mam Tor and all the caves. It is a fantastic location for anyone exploring the Peak District and well worth dropping in on. Parking is free if you're staying at the Hotel. Thank you Ben and Doug you were fantastic!
Good location in a quiet picturesque local village near to hike the peaks
Good breakfast and dinner, very tasty and well presented and well priced.
Its the staff that make this place they are very friendly and attentive and go out of there way to make you feel welcome
The only negatives is the room was very old and drastically needs some TLC and modernisation. It wasn't the cleanest room I've ever stayed in but thats probably to do with the age of the room. But saying that the beds were comfy, and was quiet so im happy with it and for the price you cant complain.
Also breakfast didn't start till 8.30 which for my personally is very late. As on holiday i like to have breakie early so i can get out and about and make the most of my hols! But saying that the actual breakfast was very good
Overall for the budget of the stay and with breakfast included its a good hotel in a good location with lovely staff. I would say it's excellent value and i would stay here again
Filthy, dusty, unhoovered rooms, no heating and the staff were clueless children far more interested in their phones than customers. The food was bland and horrendously overpriced. Avoid
No food available on the 1st night of our stay. The bar steadily ran out of drinks as the week went on. When the kitchen was open it shut early depending on what football match the barman wanted to watch.
The room was not thoroughly cleaned proor to our arrival. Mug rings on the shelf, hair in the shower, 3 long red pointed false fingernails left on the shower control, shower did not work, no breakfast service, high level shelves not dusted...

Went to check in door is locked knocked for half an hourno body answered the door
Considering contacting my Credit Card company to report FRAUD. We were told AFTER paying for the room that there was no heat, nor hot water and that it just happened that day and would be fixed. Several other guests arrived for the wedding in the next couple of days and were told the same. NO HEAT the entire stay, NO HOT WATER the entire stay. WILL NEVER recommend the George.
It’s a long time since we had such a poor experience. When we arrived we were told the corridor lights were not working, as a result we had to negotiate our way to our room in the pitch black with our 5 year old twin granddaughters.
The hotel no longer provides breakfast despite advertising they do.
We went to the bar to find the ladies toilets were not working. There was a disappointing availability of drinks and bar snacks.
The only person who appeared to be working was pretty indifferent to the situation.
On the plus side our room was comfortable and clean but we had no hot water.
A very disappointing experience that we won’t be repeating
When I booked it said free parking..When checking in was told that they would register my car details. They took my reg number and I left it with them. I had no reason to believe anything other than it would be fine. Was showed to our room and how to get in and out of building after hrs. Couldn’t get any food there as kitchen was being refurbished we were told. Went out to a party got back to none around. Left in the morning. Didn’t see anyone so saw other keys on table and left ours there. Thinking all had been ok. One week later we get a parking fine for £100 for parking without E-permit. Tried to contact hotel but no joy there. Disputed fine but got refused even with the reciept and booking reference. Avoid at all costs as we finished up having to pay the fine because somebody at the George didn’t do their job. Disgusting for what turned out to be a very expensive sub standard room.
Booked this hotel for 1 night as the hotel I wanted to stay at for 2 nights could only accommodate me for just 1 night.
On getting to the hotel, while the staff behind the bar were friendly, I immediately got the sense that whoever owns this hotel doesn't really care about it's paying guests.
1. Had to register my car after being told by the hotel staff that while they own the car park, they have contracted out the management of the park to an enforcement company.
2. Not in the room indicating there eating in the room is not allowed, and if staff deterime that food has been in the room, then they will apply a cleaning fee - fee amount was not specified. I've never been in a hotel where you cannot eat in the room.
3. Woke up in the morning and went to have a shower - it was not working, and there was no one at the bar or reception to assist. Ended up taking a bath which was a waste of water really.
4. Paid for the room and the extra for breakfast. Went down to breakfast in the morning, only to fin that the door was locked and a note saying "no chef so breakfast is cancelled". No alternative was provided, and no one around to provide info on where guests can get breakfast.
5. On checking out, there were guests who had not paid - I opted to pay on arrival - it was 11 o'clock and no one was around to take payment from the departing guests.
Would I stay at the hotel again - NO! Not even if you paid me to stay!
If I could rate you a zero I would. We came with our 14 month old child and had no heating for 2 nights. And the space heater we were given in order to correct this didn’t work and hadn’t been safety checked in 4 years. The hair dryer in almost 20! When we tried to speak to staff about the heater we were unable to make contact with staff at all to begin with and when we did we were told we just had to deal with it like they were as they had no other options available to us. The only hot water available was the shower or kettle, the TV turned on but didn’t have any channels. Genuinely lovely room but you have done nothing but fail to provide any adequate solutions to your buildings issues. The corridor to our room didn’t even have any lighting or any windows so we had to rely on our own phones to get safely to and from the room. We were not made aware of these issues prior to our stay, but have since found out that the issue has been an issue for several days despite it all being made out to be a sudden issue at check in. My baby found rubbish from previous guests, and almost ate it. Horrified to say the least. For £250+ this is not at all worth it and has ruined this weekend celebrating my sisters wedding. On top of this the on call staff went out and got drunk and on return told my partner and brother it was okay to just vape in the room!
