Glacier Bay Lodge was a wonderful stay in a beautiful part of the world! It had everything we needed- rustic charm, friendly people, comfy beds, a restaurant and excellent customer service! They provided shuttle service from and to the airport and ferry and to other places as needed. They also provided several tour options- the Glacier Bay boat tour was excellent!
Drawbacks for some people would be no refrigerator in the rooms and no tv in the rooms or main lodge area. However, there are ice buckets in the rooms that restaurant staff will fill up as needed.
It’s a National Park Lodge so it’s basic, as you would expect. It was clean, comfortable and in a location that is remarkable. We stayed here for two nights. After the first night staff came by and asked if we needed anything. How often does that happen in a “high end” hotel?
Nice quiet location. Our room was clean and the service overall was decent. The staff is seasonal and not always coordinated. Sometimes the server was excellent other times it was lacking.
There is no rash area to gather and play cards or games. The lounge area has couches and is the only place with internet. You can’t sit in the dining area because it’s constantly being turned over for the next meal. It would be nice to have another place to gather especially since it rains frequently. We did find 1 table upstairs with 4 chairs that we cleared off park material so we could play cards.
The food was decent, pretty much the same menu everyday so if your coming for more then a night or two be prepared. Breakfast hot items were warm not hot but the selection was decent. There is no bar but you can order alcohol during meal hours or if someone is available when the dining area is closed.
The hiking trails are nice and i would recommend the boat trip in Glacier Bay.
Overall the stay was good and I would recommend it to others.
I was really looking for a vacation where I could unplug, relax, spend time outdoors, and take photos of animals. Glacier Bay was the perfect place to do this, and Glacier Bay Lodge's location in the national park made it a great choice. We spent a week there (August 14-20). I was a little nervous reading the reviews left by others, for no reason. I think a lot of people went early "post" pandemic and the property was likely struggling with supply chain and staffing issues that were happening globally. Other reviewers seem to forget they were going to a national park.
- The room had plenty of light, the bathroom fixtures were dated but it was clean and there was a moisture absorber in the closet - important for a rainforest setting. There was no mold, the bedding and room were clean.
- Food options were somewhat limited, mostly because we're vegetarians, we packed shelf stable, high-protein snacks to supplement. There is only one restaurant ON property, but that's more than many national parks have. The food was good, the staff altered menu items to create novel options for us.
- The staff were friendly and helpful. They shared their favorite hikes, photos & videos they had taken while exploring the park themselves. They were not intrusive but were happy to chat with us and seemed to enjoy working together a great deal.
- Transportation was great, even when Alaska Air's tower went down and one transport became 10. The driver also took us to a hike offsite for free.
We had a fantastic experience here at Glacier Bay Resort. Staff excellent and very friendly and helpful. Great experience and highly recommended. Boat tour of the glaciers enjoyed
Staying at the park is amazing. The staff were all great. They were all friendly and helpful. You just can't get over though the actual location. It's so beautiful.

I absolutely loved the glacier Bay Lodge. It had an old-school feel to it, like you were going to camp, staying in cabins, and I thought it was so great! Everything was comfortable, the staff was great, and the food delicious. 10 out of 10, would be happy to return.
Glacier Bay Lodge is several miles outside of the small town of Gustavus, but the destination of choice for travelers to the area, providing an optimal staging place for trips out to the glacier. We hiked the coast on the forest trails running north and south from the lodge. Both trails are extremely well maintained and gorgeous the whole way through. The staff was more than happy to ensure we knew all of the risks in the area and allow us to borrow bear spray just in case things went sideways. Not convenient if wanting to visit Gustavus, but a problem easily solved with a rental. Otherwise, shuttle service is available to and from the airport without the need to rent a car if you are visiting for the glacier tours.
Hotel is in remote place, where food supplies and employees are hard to find. Given that it is run by a major company. They have the skills to work with food suppliers. Besides hamburger, everything else is not available.

Beautiful Place to visit
Lovely location. Amenities and services are very limited here as it is in the middle of Glavier Bay National Park. Food selection is minimal and expensive, limited hours. No TV in lodge or room and wifi in lodge only.
Backcountry access to kayak trips w camping, leave from nearby (1/4-mile) dock for day cruise boat. Guiding services for Glacier Bay available (AMG has interesting multi-days trips).
Hotel service and food are a solid 5/10.

The setting is beautiful - and that's the best thing about this property. They do provide a shuttle from the Gustavus airport (how we arrived), but you need to make a reservation (we weren't told this during any of our communications with the property). We were told that "the bus won't leave until all names on the reservation list are checked". The driver left when the bus was full - no names were checked (though I'm sure no one was left behind). Check-in was a bit chaotic. A reception staff member came out to meet the shuttle, gave a brief orientation then handed out room keys. We had to then wait in another line to make a dinner reservation for that evening - the lodge is the only dining option (tried to make one over the phone a couple days earlier but the staff member couldn't get to the reservation book during our call). Nice enough room - comfortable beds, hot water in the shower, toiletries, etc. Room a little cramped - but you're not there to spend time in the room. However, bathroom ceiling had mold and dirt and hair on it! Otherwise room was clean. No wifi in rooms, only lodge - again, you're not here to be connected. Enjoyed a walk along the beach trail before dinner. Dinner - short-staffed dining room (as was everywhere in Alaska this summer), limited menu, pricey for the quality, out of many items on the drink menu (only one beer type available and they would not serve drinks to people before dinner). Staff did the best they could. Breakfast buffet was decent.
The only lodge in glacier Bay Marianas park, free transfer from Alaska flight included

Bring food with you!
We heard that the lodge had just opened a few days earlier and that they didn't have enough staff, which could be the reason it was not so great, but we did enjoy the area and location, which made up for it. The room was fine, but the food options were grim. The breakfast was very expensive and less than enjoyable. Then the restaurant was closed until dinner time with no options to buy any food or even get coffee in the lodge. They did have a few snacks at the gift store. If you are checked out of the lodge just waiting for the late-afternoon transfer to the airport, it's advisable to bring some food/drinks from Juneau or wherever.

HOTEL BUS LATE TO AIRPORT WE MISSED OUR FLIGHT!
AND THEY WOULD NOT SO MUCH AS CREDIT US FOR ONE NIGHT'S STAY. The Aramark (who manage the lodge) bus service drug their feet getting (slow to leave, many stops) to the airport and we were denied boarding on the last (only?) flight of the day by Alaska Airlines who repeatedly said they told the lodge to get the bus their on time. As a result we spent $420 for a puddle jumper to Junuea. The hotel gen manager "Jeff" would not so much as offer us a credit for our hotel stay. Every time I called (6 times) he kept saying he was seeking credit from Alaska Airlines before he could credit us, where it was clearly the hotel's fault for not getting us to the airport on time. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR MANAGEMENT!
