Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
My Place Apartments, Dublin
The apartments were close to Croke Park and the centre of Dublin. The entrance is on Lower Gardiner Street, not Mabbots Lane as stated. Our apartment - no.10 - was in need of a little TLC, fine for a one night stay, but i wouldn't have wanted to stay there any longer. Not terrible, ok for somewhere to sleep for the night. Staff were lovely!
i recently stayed here and i would highly recommend anyone thinking on doin the same to simply walk away and book in somewhere else.
on arrival to the hotel, the manager greeted us. we had a receipt that specifically said "free car-parking" so i drove down to dublin, and asked the manager where their car-parking facilities are. the manager informed me that there was no car-parking facilities provided, and directed us to a car-parking company who will give us hotel discount. 25 euro it cost me for 2 days - 25 euro more than what they had advertised!!
on arrival to the room "one of the nice one's" i was told by same manager, i noticed that the room safe wasnt in working order so i called reception to see if they could rectify the problem with it. they sent some young man to our room, and his laid back response was "i cant fix it, nothing i can do". so that night, i had no choice but to leave the few valuables i had with me out in the room. the next morning my brand new camera was gone!! i reported it to reception and talked yet again to the manager!! i asked to see the CCTV footage from the doorway entering my apartment, was informed i could see it later that day after they checked out the guests from the night before. i agreed, and went back later - manager had gone, no word of advice for me regarding the CCTV!! was told she would be in the following morning so the next morning i went to speak to her again but to no avail. since then the police have been contacted and hotels.com have been informed, so im hoping that a solution comes out of this because i feel that they should hold responsibility as they never provided safe keeping for my property and that they wont help me in letting me check the cctv - i would not check into this place EVER as you will most probably leave with less than you checked in with
The apartments are difficult to access if you have a child in a pram, and are impossible to use if you are in a wheelchair. There is no lift and a very complicated internal steps arrangement. The stairs and corridors are very narrow and probably do not meet the Irish fire regulations. (This is not the fault of the Hotel as they appear to have annexed apartments which were not designed as hotel rooms). This is not mentioned on the web site though. Had we know this we would have booked elsewhere as we were travelling with a small baby. The Staff while courteous, were clueless when it came to local information as such as train times, but this is not unusual from our experiences. The apartments were of a good standard and clean however.
Excellent value for money would definitely stay again
After some mixed reviews I had reservations about booking the apartment but I went for it and was really pleased. I was in Dublin for 4 nights with my girlfriend for her birthday and the apartments were ideal for us. Travelled by bus from the airport and found the place easily enough. The apartment was great value for money and we saved more by self catering for some meals. The apartment itself was clean, fairly well stocked with kitchen utensils, pots, pans etc and the furnishings were perfectly adequate and functional. The place wasn't particularly spacious and certainly looked 'lived in' so if you're expecting brand new furniture and a perfect TV reception then book elsewhere. The apartments were off a main road so it was quiet and we didn't hear too much from the other guests. Overall it was well worth the money and we would definitely stay here again. If you come here not expecting too much then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
At the price we paid, this place was a great bargain. The apartment we got was in great shape and was kept spotless. There were amenities we hadn't even planned on like a washer / dryer.
There were several annoying negatives: the shower was clean but had miserable water pressure and the "free wifi" that was advertised was not available in our apartment because it was too far away from the office.
The other negatives that we saw in reviews about this place just seem to pale in comparison to how nice the rooms were and how great the location was. Yeah the only TV was tiny and the beds weren't super comfortable. Really though, if you are looking for a place this close to City Center are you seriously going to spend a lot of time lounging and watching TV?
Overall, if you are looking for a resort look elsewhere. If you are looking for a clean, safe homebase while you explore Dublin this place is perfect.
We went to go to the apartments, got there and they said the plumbing was bust (which was not true) so got sent to a room with 2 double beds and that was it, the room was dirty..! we did get offered a free breakfast but that was also rubbish we got one bit of bacon a egg and a slice of toast! because they said they hadn't been shopping. Absoloutly shocking DO NOT GO THERE!!!!
Central location - nearby Connolly station and O'Connell Street. Nice to stay in an apartment if you like to "look after oneself" and do your own brekfast. We will certainly stay here again next time in Dublin...
