I needed a place to crash while I was in town. This place was easy to find and centrally located. Kinda cool to have so many different style restaurants readily available. Drawing on bathroom walls was a cute touch
A little far away from the city but there's good public transportation. The area is very quiet and and looks pretty safe. The hostels staff was friendly.

Relaxed hippie grunge
It's cozy and hippie-esque. The bathrooms are clean, there are grab bars and transfer seats in the showers. Just let the staff know if you need more tp or someone left a mess. The rooms could use a wipe down, floors are dusty. They provide fresh linens and a towel. The fridge was packed full, even though there weren't many people staying there. The staff lives in the rooms as well, maybe it's their stuff, or they need to do a regular clear out.
It's family neighborhood, lots of kids, you can hear the call to prayer. Plenty of family run businesses.
This is an affordable place to stay in convenient distance to downtown Detroit.
Shared bathroom.
Very friendly and accommodating staff.
I will be back. ET

Hamtramck Hostel despite the lower stars was a pretty good experience. It was a little further from downtown than I wanted it to be so you had to drive a bit to see the city. The surrounding area was much like the rest of Detroit; eclectic in some places, and rundown in others. I feel the vibe was good at the Hostel itself. There were some very kind hearted people. I liked some of the conversations we had. I enjoyed the idea of the shared space. I liked having access to the kitchen and laundry etc. For the two nights we stayed it was probably the most that I felt comfortable with. The rooms were pretty small and the beds barely fit me. Over all I would recommend this place because of the vibe and atmosphere but be prepared for what you are getting.

Like a lot of detroit, a bit rough around the edges, but a good stay, priced reasonably.
The hosts helped me store my luggage prior to check in time, so that i could tour the sites since i arrived early. Upon check in, i had all the information i needed, and everything went smoothly. The room was clean and quiet, the other guests were very friendly, and the neighborhood was great, offering a variety of dining options within walking distance. If youre going into the city, the bus stop is about a 5 minute walk away, or an oober is pretty cheap too. I used both. I would definitely recommend this place.
