"We loved the Ecolodge de Simal. It's really off the beaten track (quite literally so), but once you get there, the location is wonderful: right on the water. We were there for three nights. The food was plentiful, fresh, and tasty; the free activities (like a excursion en pirogue) was wonderful; the pool is chlorinated and clean; the rooms are rustic with open air bathrooms and toilets, but comfortable; the housekeeping good; the bar/restaurant staff friendly. It's not a "luxury"...

"This was a rustic lodge on an island off the coast from Missirah. Despite challenges finding the boat launch and getting the pirogue to take us to the lodge, we had a good stay. The hostess, Kiki, was warm and inviting. The property felt a bit tired (I think many properties in rural Senegal have this from the lack of tourists during the pandemic restrictions), the place had a number of activities to try. "The manager was horrible, and the management overall was terrible. It felt like South Africa in the 1970s. No one was at the property when we arrived. There was no cell phone service, and after driving one kilometer inside the reserve, they still refused to give us the Wi-Fi password. The employees seemed afraid to call the manager, and when she finally arrived, she still did not provide the Wi-Fi access. After telling us she was going to get it from her office, she disappeared for three hours. At that point, we decided it was time to end the nightmare. Waking with the lion we cancelled that activity If you are Black, this is not the place to stay: Fathala Wildlife Reserve. After a 10-hour drive, this was a major disappointment. Visit the wildlife reserve only. The staff are excellent, and the guides are professional and highly proficient in their work. You can find better hotels near the reserve for your stay. Most guests seem to have a good experience with the safari itself."
