We were surprised, that to get the rate provided, we had to pay cash up front. Not a nice surprise We were able to handle the situation but paying cash up front without a receipt was unconfortable given Ecuador's reputation for corruption.

Hotel is nice and clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Couple of small, easily fixable annoyances can make it a really great place. There was an smoke alarm with a low battery beeping constantly, and the pillows were extremely thick. Couple bucks could fix that and make your stay much more enjoyable, but we could not get a good rest. The street is noisy, but so is every street in historical Cuenca.

Really beautiful hotel was nice rooms, however the mattresses are not that comfortable. Also it is advertised as having air-conditioning but there is no air-conditioning in the rooms. So the only way to have the room be cool enough for us is to have the windows open which can be noisy at times. The breakfast is adequate but not super tasty. And it is the same menu every day with no specific choices- your fruit, rolls and eggs are just served to you when you come downstairs- it ends at 930 am which is too early for us. All that said the hotel has charm, a great location and good service from the staff.
