  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

The home is very cozy and felt very safe in the home and the surrounding area. Stayed for 2 nights and did not hear another human being nor did I hear any noise while in the property. The home is clean and has everything we needed. A good coffee machine and adjustable led lights. Plenty of chargers for different mobile handsets. Coffee machine plus coffee beans. A few suggestions: 1.There are no oven trays if one wants to throw in a pizza after a long day of sightseeing 2. A full length mirror would be very helpful 3. A bathroom mat is needed, otherwise one is forced to use bath towels which is not ideal and wasteful 4. A blind/curtain on entrance door would be helpful, I needed this once it was late at night and had to use a throw because I felt exposed and didn’t like the feeling that someone outside could watch/see me. Don’t think this happened but couldn’t help but think that this was a possibility, and once this crossed my mind I felt the need to cover it up. Happy to book again. This is such a lovely property.

The room where i stayed was perfect for a solo traveler like me, i arrived late and was able to get in with ease with my personalized access code. The room was clean and quite cozy. I was able to walk every morning to the local coffee spots and grab food and drinks at the local market at the end of the street. The area was quiet at night and is less then 10 minutes from downtown by car. If youre going to drive and park, i highly recommend that you get a car parking pass for easy parking on the street where the house is located. Overall, i was very comfortable during my stay and will stay there again when im in the area.

We loved staying at the jungle house! Easy to find, easy to park, and very clean and welcoming overall. I am a water snob so I greatly appreciated the Brita water filter in the fridge.
