  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

The room was in ok condition. Nothing fancy. The room needs brighter light bulbs. No sheers at the windows in our room, so we had to keep the blackouts drapes closed. We were on the first floor. the side exit door had no lock on it. Our room was by the exit door. They need garbage cans at the exit doors. The grounds were filled with litter. Continental breakfast left a lot to be desired. Staff was very friendly. We had to ask for towels each day.

Room was adequate, seemed clean, bed was comfortable. Property needs an overhaul; public areas were dirty, wall trim often damaged or missing, carpets in hallways appeared filthy and/or decades old. Furniture in lobby area was worn, like when you have a fabric couch that should've been replaced years ago. Sign in breakfast area threatened $50 fine for taking breakfast or beverages to room. Breakfast lacked any type of eggs, breakfast room dirty,unclean, cramped. Place wasn't awful but I'll never stay here again.

Nice For the Price

Fitness center unavailable. Indoor pool nice at the price point. No shuttle to airport. Breakfast more than continental. Plenty of eateries around. Huge suite - two TVs.

The attendant at the desk was very nice and thorough. The room was okay for the price. The shower floor was a lil dirty and the bed had a stain inside sheets that I did not discover until later. Area was nice and convenient to food.

Check in was easy. Our room was nice McDonald's right out the front door, subway across the street. Beds were comfortable room was nice and clean. Breakfastcwas good. On the down side the ac unit is really loud hard to sleep.

Staff was friendly. Room was clean. Beds were comfy. I didn’t give it five stars just because the carpets looked stained int he hallways and room. It was in walking distance to food and convenience stores.

Not the cleanest hotel, but ok for one night

The rooms felt a little dirty. Their airport “shuttle” is a Lyft driver. The rooms could use some updating. The leather desk chair Had holes in it, the carpet had stains, the coffee maker looked dusty, no soap was provided. It was fine for one night near the airport and about what we expected for the price. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. The continental breakfast was average. You must eat it in the cafe and can’t bring food to your room.
