Worst experience ever. Old ice machine outside my door made noise all night long and had stained the carpet in front of it from leaking. They are planning on gutting this building and I could see why. Checked out ASAP. The hotel should not have been rented in this condition.
The building looks like it shouldnt even be open. There is construction going on on all four sides of the building and the place looks abandon. Dirty, old, and just gross. The wallpaper was coming down in the bathroom, the drain in the tub was stopped up, there was NO fire detector in our room, just wires where it should be, the air condition vent was so molded and grimmed up it made me gag. There was just an overall sketchy vibe with the whole place, again it seemed like the building shouldnt have even been allowed to have people in it, only reason we stayed was because it was close to the township auditorium and had no other options after arriving. The staff was friendly enough, but do yourself a favor and stay away from this place.
I work in the service industry, so I hate to post a really negative review, but this hotel was a pretty bad experience. Half of it is under renovation, so the only part guests can stay in is very old and in obvious disrepair. The first room we were booked in had a broken lock, so we had to take the creaky, terrifying elevator back and forth 3 times to reception, the first two times to get a new key (which didn't work either), the third time to get a new room.
The room we got (a non-smoking room with two queen beds) reeked of cigarette smoke. The fire alarm had been ripped out of the wall (wires hanging out), and the toilet would only flush by lifting the lid off the back and manually flushing it. The shower/tub took roughly half an hour to drain after being used. The alarm clock, television remote, phone, and wifi did not work. There was broken glass on the floor.
I've stayed at this facility a number of times over the last 20 years. They are undergoing a major renovation, which means there are some minor inconveniences, but the rooms are clean and pleasant, the beds are good, everything in the room works, the staff is helpful and considerate, and the parking lot is well lit. They can't serve breakfast at this time during the construction. They appear to be giving reduced rates because of the construction; I saved over one third the rate over the next comparable choice. If you want a comfortable place to stay the night close to the University and want to save money, take advantage of this place while they are getting fixed up.
THIS WAS AN OVERALL TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. WHEN WE WERE WALKING INTO THE HOTEL TO CHECK IN PEOPLE WERE LEAVING SHAKING THEIR HEADS. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A KEY SIGN FOR US. THE CURTAINS WERE RIPPED,BED SPREAD WAS RIPPED THE TV DIDN'T WORK AND THERE WERE BARE OUTLETS IN THE ROOM. VERY UNSAFE AND UNCLEAN.
The hotel front appears to be boarded up; nothing like the online pictures. There’s a dimly lit parking lot in the back where you enter. The lobby smelled musty; the guy at check-in didn’t speak much English; the elevator was slow & loud with a handprint on the wall (see pic). My room was gross. The door was hard to open & close. The curtains were coming off rod (see pic); NO SMOKE DETECTOR (see pic); phone unhooked; stain on the sheet (see pic); sink had broken stopper and no soap (see pic); closet alcove light buzzed constantly; big hole in ceiling above the light (see pic); only 2 electrical outlets available in whole room; wallpaper peeling off everywhere; no mini-frig; carpet was damp; so few lights/lamps that more than half the room was in total darkness; shower sprayed water all over the counter; when I asked for a different room I was told they were sold out (even though there were only 2 cars in the lot, and I never saw another person the whole weekend). I slept fully dressed both nights so my skin wouldn't touch the sheets. The toilet tissue was so thin it was almost worthless.
If I had stayed at a rent-by-the-hour dump, I might have expected this. But since I booked this place online and paid MUCH more, I was shocked at the abysmal conditions. I will not ever return here, and will tell everyone I know to stay away. What an embarrassment for the city of Columbia. This hotel should be prohibited from advertising. It is NOTHING like the website suggests.
Old, rundown property. Construction onsight. TV did not work. Room was dirty. Plumbing was bad. Will never stay there again. Would have been better at a Motel 6. Wasted my money.
Other than the location, this place had a lot to be desired. The carpet was less than stellar, the woman who checked us in seemed to rush us upstairs so she could get back to texting on her phone. The room was OK. The following day however the front desk attendant, Taki, greeted us and she was far more pleasant and helpful even explaining the construction we were victims to. Hopefully once they complete the upgrade it will improve on all fronts.
Not the best conditions but I guess I got what I paid for. It looks like they are doing some remodeling and the building seemed dirty. When I came in at night I could not get in the hotel and I had to call and wait for someone to come and open the door.
had to change rooms 3x , no electric in first room , second room had 2 maid carts in it and tv didn't work

Needs to clean carpets!
Check in was easy and man was friendly. I saw no other staff during my stay. It appears that the hotel is under remodel or construction, but could see not sign of any improvements. The lobby, hallway, and room carpet desperately needs to be cleaned. The wall paper in the lobby is coming off the walls.
Hotel in need of updating going through renovation
This hotel is in great need of updating currently being renovated however stay wasn't very pleasant. My room did not have a hard landline telephone for two days. I had a broken shelf in the closet area . Limited access at night difficult getting in ,attendant has to come to a rear door upon ringing the bell.

nice old hotel in midst of renovations.
older hotel, but being renovated. wonderful desk clerk, but no maintenance back-up. sink was stopped up and phone didn't work. got the sink fixed. i'll give them another chance if i go back, because i like the feel of the place.
Well, the desk clerk was nice. It was her second day so I was patient with her and she was friendly. Now I'm pretty sure the other people that worked there before set up my reservation. That person set me up with a room that wasn't cleaned at all! There was still urine in the toilet and all. So when I went back to the desk lady and told her, she looked soo embrassed. The floors in the hotel were not vacuumed at all from the time I stepped in the hotel to my room. So I called again and said all is ok but my room needs to be vacuumed. Another lady promptly came up and did that for me. The wallpaper was slightly coming off in some areas and cut unevenly in others. And the alarm clock was so old it didn't even work so I put it behind the night stand until I left. I soon noticed that I also did not have a mini fridge or microwave either. All of this surprised me because I stayed here once before when it was called The Clarion and it was great! That's why I came back. And I know they're adding on rooms next door but my lord, I was pretty upset and embrassed cause I got the room for a romantic night. But my partner was understanding. Overall, my stay was nowhere near worth using my free night. $110.00 for what I would say was worth $30. Go to the motel 6 off two knotch rd. It's WAY better and only half the price!
