Comfortable and clean with great mountain view. Staff is excellent and friendly. Historical is correct as you look around inside. Great patio area. Probably not many places left like this. Located in the country. Wish we could have stayed a few more days.
It was conveniently close to the Philmont Scout Ranch. The reading rooms were quiet and comfortable. Having access to kitchen facilities was handy since restaurants in the area are scarce and unpredictible.
This was our final overnight stay on a spectacular eight-day late September / early October trip that my wife and I took in Colorado and northern New Mexico. Actually, most of the trip was pre-planned months in advance, but our side venture into New Mexico and a stay at the wonderful Casa del Gavilan was a bit of a last minute change in plans. We were extremely fortunate to be able to stay in the Phillips Guest Room, which was the favorite room of Jack Nairn, the founder and original proprietor of this historic inn.
All the five star reviews of the Casa del Gavilan are well-deserved. This is a very special place with an incredibly beautiful natural setting, remarkable history, magnificent historical architecture, comfortable rooms, and gracious hospitality.
A stay at the Casa del Gavilan is good for the soul! My wife and I are already thinking about a return trip, maybe in the spring?
The stay was above and beyond. Even though I went for work my nights were so pleasant I didn’t want to return home. Cozy! It reminded me of my parents’s Tudor style house growing up. So peaceful. I saw deer eating food nearby then two adorable dairy cows. Very clean devoid of any strange smells to mask anything. Impeccable service. I got a breakfast baggie for bc I had to go to work early which was yummy. Thank you very much.
Gorgeous place at edge of philmont ranch. Stunning views and the Southwest style with lovely art and furnishings just perfect. Wonderful breakfast and food to snack on that was included. Staff most helpful. Want to go back next year and stay longer!
We stayed two nights while travelling to meet a crew coming off the trail at Philmont. Wonderful experience...great property, excellent hosts, terrific breakfast each day. We particularly loved walking out back for an up close view of the iconic Tooth of Time. We would love to stay here again.
The property is located in a quiet ranch protected by gates and fences. Upon arrival, The host gave us a property tour and showed us the hiking trails and the best places to watch sunset and sunrise. Breakfast was great. We had a wonderful stay and will stay here again when we are in the area next time.
Staying at this historic property was certainly a treat. The property is lovely and inviting. We enjoyed a delicious, full breakfast in a cheerful dining room along with other guests. Really enjoyed learning about the history of the property. Would love to visit again someday. Highly recommend.
This property is a one of a kind.
Loads of character and unique features.
Reception was out standing, gave a full tour and explained the history of the Casa.
In the morning if you enjoy bird watching please go to the east front patio. Put on your Merlin app. And see how many lovely birds join you while drinking your coffee. Next time we go we will be getting up earlier so that we can enjoy the sun and birds. The view is so lovely and listening to the wind travel through the mountains is just so wonderful. Not hearing traffic is just wonderful. And star glazing is soooo special. Thank you Kimberly and staff for providing such a lovely unique experience!!
This is the 3rd stay here over the last 3 years. Very tranquil, quiet, and relaxing. I have stayed in three different rooms and they all have great western ambiance. Nice trails around the property to take a walk and view the Tooth of Time or meadows with deer, antelope, and a bear, along with the occasional cow or horse are roaming about. Highly recommended.
This was a top notch experience. The establishment is in beautiful shape with tons of history. Their friendliness and accommodations went beyond all expectations! When my husband checked in, he explained I was exhausted and had caught a cold. Polly immediately set me up with an Epsom Salt Essential Oil deep tub soak! Then for breakfast, she made a diabetic friendly meal just for me. We are both flabbergasted by the hospitality. Hope to return.
This is a lodge converted from n historic home out in a beautiful and blissfully peaceful rural setting about six miles north of Cimarron, NM. The building is surrounded by mule deer, prong-horn antelope and grazing cattle. The structure is in the pueblo style with comfortable southwestern decor and historical photos and art. There is a courtyard area for guests to enjoy with many types of flowering plants and hummingbirds feeding. The staff is cordial and willing to patiently assist or answer almost any questions. The atmosphere here is so comfortable I cannot wait to return and plan to in the near future
The staff & owners have done an amazing job of offering this wonderful historical ranch inn to folks to relax & enjoy ... the surrounding range land is stunning! Hope to return soon & stay longer .
This place was 100% awesome. Would always recommend. Can’t wait to go back out west and stay here again. The staff was so friendly, they were 110% awesome.
