Excellent choice as a base for exploring Buenos Aires. Close to everything ... hop on hop off bus stops, tango dinner show, San Telmo market, Buquebus if planning to visit Uruguay. The room we stayed in was next to the main road, we can hear sirens, etc., but didn't bother us at all. We still got a restful sleep. Might not be suitable for everyone. However, our stay was trouble-free and staff were all helpful and kind. Happy to stay here again.
Central location easy walk to the Tango shows and plenty of shops nearby.
We were able to leave our luggage after check out.
Quirky room layout with upstairs bed
Stayed here for 9 nights on a solo trip, was very clean and a very nice loft set up. Staff were friendly and very helpful with making recommendations of things to visit in the city, no fridge or safe in the room had to keep valuables on me while exploring the city. Aside from that the location is great. 5 miniute walk from plaza de mayo, 10 miniute walk from the city centre. There’s also a 24 hour grocery store 3 miniute walk away.
This is a good place to stay. Clean and nice, 24 hrs front desk.
Pros: location, big rooms and luggage storage.
Cons: Old building, no food allowed in the room.
Walking distance of the microcentro, nice restaurants and the subway.

Liked: Cleanliness
The hotel was quite cute, in a very old style, but was not run down. The lifts had doors you need to manually close, which was pretty cool, although if someone forgets to close the doors when they leave, the lift will not operate until someone closes them, which could mean climbing 4 flights of stairs to your room.
The location is superb, next to a 24-hour Carrefour and the subway station, so it was quite convenient when travelling by subway. There is also a vehicle stop area right outside the hotel, which makes it super convenient to wait for Ubers.
The room was decently clean, and it had aircon, which was a god-sent in the BsAs heat. There is not much by way of amenities, but it was comfortable enough.
The staff were really unfriendly though, and didn't smile much and were not very helpful. The front door is always kept locked and you need to catch the attention of the receptionist to open the door, but they're not always at the front desk, so you may have to wait and knock on the door for a while before the receptionist appears. That wasn't great when we were rushing back to grab our bags to go to the airport..
The location of this hotel is ideal! We loved being within walking distance of so many area attractions, restaurants and shopping. The building is interesting and artistic, very trendy. There are no exterior windows, which is a bit unnerving, but manageable.
This property is very charming. It doesn’t offer all that much but the charm makes it memorable. This part of town is great for tourists, nightlife, food. It’s actually very safe to walk at night you see kids and families walking past midnight. Police are around as well. I don’t like having to be buzzed in and out every time but I understand since it is on the corner of a busy street. But sometimes you might have to wait a minute or two to get let in. One time saw a family locked out late at night and the receptionist was asleep. I haven’t seen him since though. Probably a good thing because we were worried we may be locked out one of these days if he falls asleep again every time we went out late. Fortunately it didn’t happen to us. That being said I’d stay here again.
Overall this was a good experience. The only thing is that we didn’t get new towels the whole 5 days we were there. We had to re-use them.
The maid just arranged the bed sheets each day but she didn’t sweep nor mopped the floor because we found the same pieces of garbage around the room every day. We didn’t pick it up just to see if she did and she never did. Sadly, we suffer of hair loss and the hair was never picked up in the room nor the bathroom. We had to do it ourselves
The staff was great specially in the front desk, the only thing to improve is the room cleanliness
Rooms were very basic. The bathroom had very little space on the sink to put things. No shelf and no door in the shower. Water went all over the floor and became slippery. Only one chair on the first level, which you couldn’t even sit in because it had a hole in it. Bed was tolerable and sloped a bit on one side. Most of the lights didn’t work in the room. Room was noisy. The person upstairs sounded like they were moving furniture in clogs.
Location was great. Sube right outside the door. Walk ability to many places.
After a 9 week holiday in South America and Europe I rate La Fresque as my favourite accommodation stay. I love "oldy worldy" and this hotel has been beautifully and sympathetically restored. The lift alone is an experience but without a doubt this whole hotel has character with a capital "C".
The suites have so much room and the bedroom is located on a mezzanine level above accessed via a spiral staircase. The vaulted and arched ceiling was very special and appears to be a feature of older buildings in this city.
The city is very walkable and La Fresque is in a prime location for sightseeing, restaurants and cafes. We found a delightful wine bar about 200 metres from the hotel on the other side of the street. Turn right and head in that direction. You won't be disappointed.
The bed was quite comfortable and there was little street noise considering the proximity to the main street.
The downstairs museum is well worth a visit and appears to be at capacity. There is old stuff crammed everywhere.
So that's it. If you like quirky, unusual and prime position in Buenos Aires at a very reasonable price then look no further.
I rate this hotel some stars because it was very convenient right on one of the main streets, we were able to walk to a lot of places we visited. Don't get me wrong the hotel is gorgeous looking! Elevator service was pretty good for a very old building. We arrived a few hours early, so we just left our bags checked in for the meantime. When we returned, we got situated to our room. EVERYTHING was wrong even before we stepped into our room. The light above our door was pitch black due to the light bulb burned out. The door wouldn't open for us with the code they gave us. We obviously complained and told us they would change the batteries. My cousin that traveled with us went to the bathroom and there was no toilet paper. We had a very rough beginning!! The problem with the door was ongoing for over two days. The girl was upset and yelling at me because I was upset and complaining. The only good thing she did was transfer us to a room that the door function right. You would think we could have got an upgrade for all the inconvenience but no we got squeezed into a smaller space than the one we had at first. Since it's a very old build there is no windows!!! We had to keep calling reception every time we needed the ac on and mind you it was several times because it automatically shut off and they don't leave you the ac control. If they couldn't program it from downstairs, they would have to come up into your room. The WIFI in any floor did not work and that is they had so many.
I have mixed feelings about this property. The room was very clean, and the sheets were changed daily, so I had no concerns in that regard. The location was good, in a very safe neighborhood. If I were to go to Buenos Aires again, I would probably look for a hotel a little closer to Recoleta or Palmero, as those were my favorite neighborhoods.
Cleanliness and location would both merit five stars, in my estimation.
However, check-in was confusing. I had checked into my room online before arriving. When I got there, however, that didn't seem to matter. The staff really wanted me to check in with WhatsApp, which I don't use and didn't have on my phone. The staff spoke no English, and my Spanish isn't as good as it could be, adding to the difficulties. They eventually gave up and let me get into my room anyway.
When I got to my room, the air conditioner was off. I contacted the staff, and was told that I needed to turn it on with WhatsApp. They eventually turned it on for me. Once on, it continually dripped onto the nightstand. It wasn't too bad, so I just put a hand towel on the nightstand to muffle the dripping sound.
The air conditioner quit working at one point, and was off for almost a whole day. I don't really know why it quit working, but I was certainly glad when it started again.
In conclusion, if you've got WhatsApp, you should have a much better time working with the staff.
