"THIS is the place to stay when staying near Saint Jean De Luz. We actually decided to book here last-minute after our other hotel (highly rated, btw) was lackluster and we wanted to keep the good vacation vibes going. This is a renovated estate with the original building dating from the 1600s. We stayed in the smallest room, but even this was super well appointed and comfortable for two people. The pool area is amazing, and it's so nice to have a Michelin-rated restaurant as part of the auberge. If that's not your thing, it's still nice to have a glass of wine on the terrace or enjoy their breakfast.
I have no idea why I didn't book this place originally, but maybe I was deterred by what seemed like a farther distance from the ocean? In hindsight, I should have just gone here first. This hotel is infinitely better than the seaside locations, and it sits atop a hill so that you get amazing views of the valley/basque countryside. It's also only a short drive to the beach, and it's nice to have a countryside retreat from the chaos of Biarritz/SJDL.
Also, the staff was so lovely and attentive and made everything feel like a luxe getaway for what I think is a pretty reasonable price for the area."
