This was a great place to stay. The staff were absolutely brilliant and very friendly. The food was great with very reasonable prices. The location was good for walking and exploring the area
More than expected. Room extremely clean and fresh and bed suprisingly comfortable. On-site self-catering facilities a real bonus and well equipped. Service and check-in was very friendly and efficient. Fantastic location, peaceful yet only a short walk to Grasmere centre.
All members of staff extremely helpful, young lasse went out of her way to book me in early, then other females granted me an iron and ironing board and directed me to the in-house laundrette and drying area🙏
Absolutely einfach-klasse/ simply brilliant. All areas were spotlessly clean.
This YHA is the best, in my humble opinion, and the ambiance is surreal. A credit to Cumbria, exemplifies the fact that Cumbria is putting the Great back into Britain ✌️☮️🐇💋🌈
Property is set within amazing grounds which really are second to none.
The cost of the rooms are cheaper than regular hotels with shared bathrooms with other guests. The facilities are similar to those at campgrounds.
The bedrooms have bunkbeds - no towels provided.
I appreciate that with youth hostels you lose comfort that regular bnbs provide, but to be charging £110 per room per night doesn’t give you what you should get for that price.
Youth hostels were historically for youths, to get away at reasonable prices. I was the only 20 year old I saw at the property. The rest of the guests were 40s with some looking retirement age. I’m not saying the place should be reserved for ‘youths’ but I am saying, the rooms should reflect the price. If it’s no longer about providing a space for ‘youths’ to go away, then it needs to massively increase the quality provided. Next time, I’ll pay the extra £20 and stay somewhere with an en-suite and towels I don’t have to pay for.

Avoid!
Avoid this place, especially if there's any chance you may arrive after 10pm - they have no staff at all on duty after 10pm (which seems very unsafe) and no facilities to collect keys after that time. They cancelled our booking at 9pm on our night of arrival because of their unusual lack of late check-in services as we were delayed and would arrive after 10pm. They refused to even transfer our room to a nearby YHA which we could have reached. They caused us inconvenience and extra expense and then still charged us for the room! They should make clear on hotels.com that they'll refuse anyone arriving late, as I've never before encountered this in literally hundreds of hostel and hotel stays, in the UK and abroad. When i emailed to complain, the second response was an autoreply that the place currently has no manager - this doesn't surprise me! Do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere - if you have any issues with them, they won't be interested.
What a lovely place to stay. The staff were absolutely lovely and the hostel is well equipped. Comfortable bed, clean crisp linen and beautiful surroundings. I would definitely recommend.
Really enjoyed my stay here. It is a very charming hostel in beautiful surroundings. Very relaxing place to stay.

Good for groups
Clean and functional. Lovely staff. Can see this is great for families and groups with large communal areas but wouldn’t stay again as a couple. Very basic for same price as a b&b.
A couple of minutes walk down the path is the little cozy town Grasmere. Co-op store is down the street. Enjoyed the walk during sunset.

Great Location
The area the hostel is located is simply divine. The building and surroundings of YHA Grasmere is fabulous. However, slightly disappointed that advertises as private rooms which would mean your own personal facilities but this was not the case. Better if just state the number of bunks and declare that always shared. It is slightly deceiving otherwise. However, the stay was really comfortable and good place just to rest your head for the night.
Beautiful building, great location, free parking, friendly helpful staff, comfy rooms. Can't fault it for the price! Only improvement I'd suggest is sprucing up the bathrooms.
