Beautiful hideaway nestled in the hill within easy walking distance of the ocean at Kaka Point. Private, secluded with lovely views, this cottage is a great retreat for a couple to enjoy time away. We highly recommend this “getaway”.

Oh My Goodness!! What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL place!! VERY tastefully decorated and was like walking into a 5 Star Hotel with all the complimentary extras. The outside dining area with the BBQ was just great. Magnificent sea views. There is not a single thing to say negatively about this property - will be back!!

The best bach we have stayed in. Spotlessly clean, stylishly furnished and comfortable, and well equipped with appliances that are easy to use. Stunning location in a pretty and private garden, less than 5 minutes walk to the beach. We enjoyed watching Netflix in the evening. Excellent communication with the host. Can't wait to return! Thank you also for allowing our dog to stay.

Our Hideaway Holiday

Although it was just one room the layout was so well thought out through that there was plenty of space available. It was well appointed and comfortable and spotless when we arrived. The location was first class in respect of access to facilities in Kaka Point and points of interest.

Lovely part of NZ

The bach had all the mod cons and clean, is prefectly positioned to explore the Catlins or just to chill out. We will happily return for another week once summer is out of the way.

Ideal get-away retreat.

Just two nights in this really comfy cottage was not long enough. The place had everything we needed, compact but did not feel cramped. Lovely outside seating with just the sound of the ocean and the birds. We loved having our beloved dog with us too. Thank you Paul.

Relaxing time away in nature and comfort.

A lovely little space with everything you need. So grateful we were able to bring our fur baby too, thank you! Neighbours were closer than expected and noisy with powertools etc so that took away from some of the quiet hideaway aspect, but otherwise great, thank you.

Hidden Gem

As you pull up the crib is hidden from view by well tended mature plants and what a delight you’ll get as you emerge from the path. The well maintained, comfortable and well laid out accomodation surpasses expectations, we loved our 2 night stay. The outside areas were also better than expected and we enjoyed both meals and relaxation in the spaces, which also enjoyed awesome views of the sweeping beach to Kaka Point village, a lovely 15minute walk away along the beach. A lovely 10minute drive along the coast, in the opposite direction, brings you to the spectacular Nugget point. We highly recommend this crib to others.

Quaint Cottage By the Beach

I stayed here 6 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking all your meals. The queen size bed is very comfortable and cozy nestled just behind a loveseat sofa in front of the TV. There is a spacious patio/deck area with comfortable furniture, and Webber gas bbq, well suited for entertaining. I enjoyed the view and walking distance to the beach and village area. The local pub has good food and staffed with friendly folks. There is grocery shopping within 20 minute drive to Balclutha. Paul is a great host who was very attentive when the WiFi internet speed dropped to almost nothing. He had it fixed the next day. If you want a fun, peaceful stay at the ocean, this is the place!

The good and the bad

The good: nice couples get-away, as listed. Quality furnishings. Great view and location. The bad: you don't find out until close to check-in that you should bring your own drinking water and not flush the toilet too much. We lost power both mornings that we were there, one hour the first day and we left the second day after 2 1/2 hours without electricity. That means no water pump so no running water, the alarm will start beeping over and over again, no internet, no heat. Be aware, the water that is available when the pump is working has an off-putting odor. There was no hairdryer available as listed. It is a studio with beds in the living room.
